Next years roster: Offense

Assuming all of seniors leave and do not take their Covid year, who do we have coming in that can truly help this team offensively? I don’t give a flip about defense - you have to score to win tournament basketball.

Freddie, DJ Jefferson, Carr, JP, and Cade Phillips?

Are any a legit post scorer? Three point shooter? A guard that can take it to the rim? Can any be a point guard?

How many scholarships do we still have if everyone leaves?
At least one of those one won’t be here. Barnes is grinding his teams and he won’t have these loyal to a fault players like Vescovi and James around anymore.

Freddie Dillione is a walking bucket. If he doesn’t pan out offensively then it will be another chink in Barne’s offensive armor
So is JP Estrella. I’m surprised how little hype he’s getting around here. Dude is a freak

I think So too loves the Vols, but I think he hits the transfer portal...
Barnes is such a disciplinarian that he pulls guys after 1 mistake..
I've noticed when he pulls Aidoo, he sits for a long time. I hope I'm wrong but I bet he leaves

Combo scorer, ball handler, that can use both hands and can take it to the hole and score. Outside of Zakai we had no one who could even shoot a layup using their off hand much less dribble.

It’s insanely difficult to win a championship in college basketball. We had a championship level PG in Kennedy Chandler but it takes more than that. You’ve gotta have multiple pieces on the team that play at a very high level. We had that with Grant and Admiral but ironically especially under Barnes, the defense wasn’t there.

“Loyal to a fault players.” It‘s amazing how far some of you will go to criticize a college player.
How is loyalty critical of a college player? It’s a virtue. My point is Barnes has had a few players, most notably James, who would never leave him, and do everything he wants. This is much better than the primadonnas who leave over nothing. I think this has afforded Barnes success, but I also think it’s hurt him by allowing him to maintain his stubborn, grind you into the ground, approach. The fact is what lies in between. Not every player is a JJJ, and not every player is a Huntley-Hatfield. I watched the Missou game with a well known, VFL PG, and he echoed much of this. He thinks the large amount of missed time is due to Barnes grueling practices and demanding so much early in the year.

Barnes will Never get Ut in trouble. He will be a good spokesmen, he will get you good wins, a good regular season record. But, his style isn’t conducive to post success in the tourney and the stats bear that out. This year is a huge opportunity as the tourney lacks dominant teams. I think we could see a real surprise team win the thing.

This is 💯 percent true Tn has Aidoo he has good size can move has some skills but he needs to put on muscle he gets thrown out position too easily
Awaka big body gives great effort improve offensive game.....I can't recall Barnes having post player that was a true center... frustrating GBO....
We don’t need a “true center” even if we had one or two above average PF’s would be a huge help! Hell, pick any of our solid PF past 25 years and think about how much improvement there would be! It baffles me why people either get offended or are afraid to bash Barnes’ recruiting! His evaluations for 3/4/5s has been terrible.

Your evaluation of his evaluations is terrible. Grant, Alexander, Schofield, Awaka, Estrella… I think each did/will outperform vs HS rank. Frankly the Serbian giant has turned into a minute protector/abuse generator who can score and rebound now and then. I sure wouldn’t write off Aidoo yet. He’s young and has a high ceiling if he gets some open space. Phillips killed it in preseason practice and was trending toward great play when he ran into the injury saw. He’s been off since December. Again, foolish to write him off. Our biggest problem at the 3,4,5 has been the injury flow of other players. Every non 5 on the team has taken a hit for weeks at a time. I still think this team fully healthy was a potential FF team. Sadly, we saw that for a game and a half before it crashed.

ORN obviously remains a mystery. His late season play last year, before the injury, was quite good. His vertical never returned. His mobility isn’t the same. Oddly he does have good nights if he isn’t doubled or guarded by an athletic seven footer.
