I just read that TAMU's stadium, not Neyland is now the biggest stadium in the SEC. This is kind of sad. I always thought that Neyland would be the top dog.

It's going to take sustained winning, but it will be again one day. Still room for expansion, there just needs to be a demand and sadly, right now, there isn't.

Our stadium will most likely never be expanded again. They could possibly change the seating within the current structure, but I don't really even see them doing that. Damn Texas A&M to hell.

We need to worry more about filling the current seats with fans decked out in Tennessee orange.

Fan attendance is trending down all across the country. I could see renovations in Neyland's future, but hard to imagine upsizing. The future is TV.

Didn't UT's last renovation lower the capacity? I don't see the stadium getting any larger. It's really not that big of a deal.

Agree completely. When you can stay home and catch every play at multiple angles, rewind, and pause the game at your leisure on a 50" HD and avoid traffic, why would you actually go to the game?

Environment/atmosphere. I do agree with you though.

I don't care how good your surround sound is...there's nothing better than hearing 100k people sing Rocky Top at the game. There's just no equivalent.

For 1 marquis game per year...but other than that I'd rather stay home.

I used to go to almost every game, but as I get older and the team isn't what it used to be it's more a convenience factor to watch at home.

I have to admit, it's kind of depressing reading this. Even the years where we sucked, at least we could say "na nana boo boo, our stadium is bigger than yours." Now we don't even have that going for us!

Will be interesting to see if TAM can fill their expanded stadium regularly? As mentioned earlier, attendance is trending down across the nation. We have the new SEC network so every game will be available on TV. They've made it very convenient to stay at home and watch. The atmosphere is great for the big games but can suck at times. If the team is playing poorly there's always some loud mouthed jack arse around me complaining loudly maring the experience. Nothing like being there in person when things are going good - its a roll of the dice and the last several years its come up snake eyes too often.

While it is awesome to sit in your lazy boy with a cold beverage and watch the Vols, NOTHING beats being there in person for a SEC closely contested game. If you disagree, then you've never been to a game like UT-AK in 98.

Schools and pro teams too will have to work on the game day experience. The days of people just showing up are gone. TV has become too good and the actual game day experience too expensive.

In 1994, gas was a buck, tickets to Neyland were $30.00 and smokey dog was $1.50. Now its all tripled, but the average income hasn't even doubled. Couple that with the fact that a 35" TV was $2,000.00 in 1994 and now it's $500.00 and its easy to see what's happened. The average person has been told to stay home by economics.

With improvement of the team the stadium needs to be decreased in size and have the seating made much more comfortable. There is no comparison to being at the game and watching it on TV, none. But for the money the fan experience needs to be improved. Better food, fan interaction with admin, players, mascots, cheerleaders with pregame and post games packages. UT needs to make it more of an experience similar to how the pros do it. Beer and bathrooms would also help as that is integral to entertainment value.

Leave the upper deck seating as bench and change all of the lower bowl with chair backs and armrests. I have surround and a 60 but there is no comparison to being in the stadium and hearing the roar of the crowd and celebrating with 85,000 orange faithful.

It's been so long since I've been, literally since the days of Jamal Lewis and Tee Martin, that I can't wait to come back this year! I'm from Memphis but I'm making the Utah State game and at least one conference game this year, and bringing my girlfriend, her brother and company. It might bring a smile to some of your faces that her mother is a HUGE Georgia fan and can't stand that I've converted her daughter. :)

Neyland stadium needs some renovations in bad way. Need another jumbotron or two smaller ones on the opposite side. Need to add wifi and get better cell service. It's all about fan experience these days and if they want more butts in seats they will have to make it more appealing. Winning will go a long to help but renovations will still be needed.
