NFL Draft - Early Discussion

The Broncos need a DT because I'm not sure what to do with Dumerville and Ayers. I would assume both would be best at DE in a 4-3. Therefore, I guess I expect Fairley :)sick:). This draft kind of sucks at the top with the exception of corner. But a corner is useless without pressure from the D-Front.

I hope Fairley can blow by NFL'ers like he did college kids....but I doubt it.

It would be nice. I just think he is no where near Sue's level of last year. But it would be nice.

Listen guys, Fairley isn't going #1. I'll tell you right now that if Newton impresses anyone in Charlotte the way he did Trent Dilfer last week, then he's the guy. He's doing everythign at the combine, which is surprising, and I fully expect him to slide into that spot. He'll go #1 and Denver will have the opportunity to get their first choice, which really might be Bowers.

Darin Gantt is the beat writer for the Carolina Panthers in the Charlotte Observer. He's the best source for quick/accurate info on the Panthers.
Here are some of his tweets from this morning. I've already called it. Newton will be the pick.

OK, after spending the last hour and a half with Rivera and Fox, here's the nuts and bolts: Much talk about QBs, as you might imagine.

Rivera said the Panthers needed a "franchise quarterback," and would bring Cam Newton in for a pre-draft visit.

Clearly, the Panthers are intrigued by Newton. They'd have to be. A lot of people are. But they're also doing homework on others.

Was the only one Rivera mentioned by name. RT @mav123456 So Cam Newton is the only player they mentioned bringing in for a pre-draft visit?

Christian Ponder will be a solid NFL starter.

I don't see that happening, but who knows. He seems like a decent kid, and I wish him the best of luck. I for sure agree with you about Dareus, he is going to be a beast, and I hope the Titans get him.

Fairley is a great player, but not deserving of the #1 overall pick IMO. Also don't think Bowers is #1 pick material. Yeah, he gets alot of sacks, but at other times he is nonexistent in games and his film isn't great. Peterson will be a shut-down CB in the NFL. Definite Top-3 talent. Too bad he will be well gone by the time my Cowboys pick. I think Prince from Nebraska is going to be a great NFL CB as well. Newton is obviously the wildcard. Will be interesting to see where he is picked.

And to add on to what others have said I think it would be a huge reach to pick up Cobb in the 2nd round. I wouldn't touch him until Round 4 at least. Also D-Mo in the late rounds would be a great steal. He will impress at the NFL Combine.

According to Mike & Mike this morning, somebody scored a 48 out of 50 on the wonderlic this year. I didn't hear who it was because I was on my way to the office when I heard it. I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that it wasn't Cam Newton.

For bonus trivia:

Anyone know what player scored the only perfect score in the history of the Wonderlic exam?

Was it Griese? I know he scored exceptionally high. I can't remember if it was a perfect score, or if he missed one or two questions.

nope. Griese did have one of the higher scores among quarterbacks, but his score was only around a 39

Alongside Mcelroy though, Ryan Fitzpatrick made a 48-49 when he took the exam in 2005. (it was originally reported as perfected before a wall street journal article reported otherwise)

If the online sample tests are anywhere close to realistic, then I'm surprised there aren't more perfect scores. All of the sample tests that I've taken were a total joke.

Finalist for Rhodes Scholarship.

I hate Bama and by proxy dislike him but you have to respect the guy and what he's been able to accomplish.

True, but I don't see it translating to the NFL. HE will be lucky to have a Billy Volek type career JMO

I can see a team drafting McElroy late and he holds a clipboard for 10 years then becomes a coach.

His dad has enough pull in the league to get him on at least a practice squad somewhere.

He could be the new Jason Garrett.

i believe that the titans will either draft julio jones at 8, or trade back with stl and pick up their 1st and a extra 2nd rd pick from them. in the 1st we will select - ryan mallett. id rather have julio tho and pick up a vet - mcnabb.
