I could have told them that :)

Patrick Brown‏ @ patrickbrownTFP 6h
ESPN's Todd McShay on AJ Johnson: 'There seems to be consensus among the [scouts] I've spoken to that he should wind up returning.' # Vols

In what game did any our O-line appear NFL ready?

When they are all on NFL rosters making 10 times or more than your yearly salary next season.....don't be proud they were Vols then.....tell everyone they don't deserve it like you are implying right now.

NFL scouts could care less about how good the player has actually preformed in college. Instead, it just becomes the intangibles. How much they can bench, what their shuffle time/40 is. It's just crazy if you ask me. It's why a guy like Chris hannon gets drafted (in the third round I believe) while guys who started ahead of him and we're the better players, never got a chance. To me, if a kid plays in the sec against elite competition, you don't even need to test their intangibles. Just go watch film. If they did... They'd tell Richardson to return. He was terrible this year. And not just at blocking. How many false starts did he have? It had to be some kind of record didn't it. Hes just not a great player. But it doesn't matter. He'll be drafted ahead of tons of better players because he can jump 1inch higher or has a 2inch larger wingspan. Crazy!

Good post.I was simply saying that they didn't play like NFL ready linemen this year.

Where is your outrage for people saying AJ isn't ready?

AJ is one player....and whether he is or isn't....he is a VFL and I hope he has an awesome career in the NFL. But you said the whole O-Line....implying all of them.....including the seniors. If you don't see their obvious God given physical gifts on an individual level the way a scout would then there is no hope for you.

They are all talented. No argument there. I wish all Vols success in the NFL with the exception of Bray and Da'Rick. I couldn't care less about either of them.

He's not going to get any faster so his draft stock isn't going to be much faster next year. He's too slow side to side and a liability in coverage to make an impact at the next level.

This doesn't mean I don't respect the hell out of what he's done for UT and I hope he returns and dominates for his senior year.

He's about as good a run stopper as you'll ever see. I mean, 320 tackles in 3 seasons is nothing to be taken for granted. But you're right, he has struggled in space (like the Oregon and Auburn games). But his best games come against pro-style offenses, which is what he'll be facing each week in the NFL.

Agree that he's at his best b/w the hashes but I would fear that beefing up to be an effective run stopper at the next level will also accentuate his weakness. But hopefully he finds a way to make it. This D could use his leadership next year.

I don't know if it is a speed thing or if he takes bad angles..but he does seem to struggle against the spread teams

So does Alabama. Doesn't seem to stop them from sending 'backers to the league, though. I hope AJ stays, but he'll do pretty well if and when he does leave.
