BBC SPORT | Other sport... | American Football | NFL in talks on London Super Bowl

Few quotes from this article............

While commissioner Roger Goodell has previously admitted an interest in bringing the game to London, this is the first confirmation of discussions.

Visit London, the capital's official visitor organisation, confirmed that it was pursuing a long-term ambition to bring the Super Bowl to the city.

"Ever since the NFL began playing games in London we have been in discussions with the NFL about what is involved in staging Super Bowl from the host city perspective," said commercial director David Hornby.

"It continues to be something we discuss on a regular basis, without there being any specific timetable or plan in place."

In October 2007, the NFL staged its first regular season game outside of the Americas, with over 80,000 fans at Wembley watching the New York Giants defeat the Miami Dolphins.

Last year, 83,000 supporters turned out to watch the New Orleans Saints beat the San Diego Chargers.

Visit London estimate that the match brought about £20m to the city with 7,000 team employees, sponsors and their guests crossing the Atlantic.

My opinion..................Fine. You want a Super Bowl? Ok. In return, we'd like for the FA to hold the FA Cup Final here in the US.

Not much of a point even discussing this. I'd imagine every single football fan will probably have the same opinion.
This idea is beyond ridiculous.

I'm trying to find that fringe fan that thinks this is a good idea...........

Like I said, if the English FA won't give up an FA Cup Final, we shouldn't give up the Super Bowl.

Perosnally I don't really care. I'll never be able to afford to go to a Super Bowl anyway, so might as well have it across the ocean.

Give it some real, deep thought. Do you really think there would be a Super Bowl anywhere outside of the United States?

with the way the big boys drool over the international exposure thought, I don't know why there wouldn't be. If they could sell out Wembley it would be more tickets than Miami, the Superdome, or Qualcomm, the three Super Bowl favorites. Only issue would be the likelihood of piss poor weather.

Bad idea any way you look at it. A pre-season game is one thing. The Super Bowl is another. No way this happens.

yeah, because those regular season games just turned out awful for the sport.

and there's no logical explanation for this being a "public relations nightmare". It's money, big money and even more international exposure. Everything Goodell would want.

i'll be shocked if this ever happens. it's a ridiculous idea. congratulations, your team is going to the superbowl. get your pass ports ready and pony up about $8000 to go to the game.

just dumb.

This was exactly my point. This is an American sport. How many Americans can afford to travel overseas for a football game? Not many. Tickets to the game itself are outrageous, but tack on overseas airfare? This is just a bad idea.

it would be a PR nightmare in the states if they do this. people here would be pissed, but....

sadly, it won't prevent people from watching or going to regular season games, so in the end, the NFL won't lose anything if they do it.
