How do other forms of racing translate their smell to TV?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

I think the acrid shock of the first blast of nitro methane obliterating the unaware sense of smell plus the smothering aroma of a full scale top fuel burnout is such a big part of drag racing. Other forms of racing do not approach this sensory attack. Throw in the actual ground shaking, body pounding shock wave of sound, and you are in total sensory immersion. Now make it the Night of Fire at Bristol and we get to include the flaming assault on the eyes.

one of the best things about going to an NHRA event is watching all the newbs run right up behind a fuel car when they are warming it up in the pits, then to watch them haul ass with tears in their eye cause they can't breath. Also watching them when the fuel cars leave the line for the first time is priceless.

I am taking some newbs to the Houston event this year, once you have seen this in person, if you arent hooked, you arent human.

....seeing newbs jump when they hit the throttle is a priceless experience.

I am taking my 11 yr old this year, he has been around my cars all of his life, but mine have been more like pro Stock cars, nothing like a fuel car. Hope he responds well to all the noise. It amazes me of all the people who bring little kids to see the fuel cars. I just dont think it is the right place for a young kid.

...he'll be okay. That's pretty much when my brother started taking me to the track with him.

...having said that, he didn't say a word about what was coming down. He just gave me a set of earplugs and let me figure out when to use them.

He is used to the noise of a racecar, but those are BEASTS. I am more excited about seeing the grown ups I am taking than seeing how he will do.

as long as the kid is old enough to pay attention, i don't have a problem. get him good set of head phones and a radio.

Being in the tunnel at Thunder Valley when a pair of top fuel cars make a run is pretty cool too. We always stood by the fence near the finish line when we went there. Feeling the compression on your body when they go by at 300 MPH is something you will NOT get at any other sport. Anywhere. Watch your bottle of water as they go by too. NASCAR can't do that.

Took my son to Bristol when he was about 4 or 5. We got there, got some food, got to our seats. He finished his hot dog and said "when do we go home?" In his defense, it was unbearably hot that day and we both were dead by the time it was over. But he stuck it out.

you should try being in the staging lanes when they launch.
