Fair enough but we're not much of a comparison in modeling for success. I don't think many would be happy with mirroring their last 20 years.

What about a comparison of just the last six years?

They're contending to host a regional this year.

They went to a regional and advanced to the final of their regional in both 2012 and 2014.

They've been to the SEC tournament every year CDS has been here. They've been seeded as high as 4th and usually sit around 8th or 9th. And they've won five games at Hoover since CDS arrived.

Why is a similar level of accomplishment impossible for us?

I don't agree with the thought process that says Serrano is proven.

Yes, he has proven he can take over a quality program in a good place and win.

He has never proven that he can take a struggling program and turn it around.

I would also say that it's a different recruiting territory and he spent years on the West Coast and now has been trying to recruit a different region. So, maybe there has been a lot of effort to build relationships over here whereas they were established on the West Coast

I never suggested that's impossible. Simply that it's not really the level to where I would raise the bar.

The people scared that it could get worse crack me up. We finish at the freaking bottom of the conference every single season. It can't get worse. Make a change and see what happens. Bring someone, not from California, that has energy and some recruiting ties and see if they can turn this thing around.

Andy Lopez and Augie Garriddo are the only coaches I can think of that left the West Coast and came East. Both went to schools with extremely fertile recruiting bases. Garrido actually left Fullerton for Illinois in the late 80's and did ok but soon realized he needed to be back in his comfort zone and went back to Fullerton.

The scholarship structure of college baseball makes the recruiting more regional. What Tennessee attempted to do with the hiring of Coach Serrano was actually more of a crapshoot than a sure thing if you really dive into the specifics of the situation.

It details the problems and challenges but it doesn't answer questions like how in the heck is Kentucky winning in baseball with crappy facilities and crappy weather and UT can't?

I'll answer for you. Coaching and evaluating talent.

Vanderbilt is an even more glaring case. They have the average facilities and pretty much the same weather as Knoxville. And yet they have succeeded at an even higher level.

Now you've done it!! Bruin will spend the next 5 pages talking about how Vanderbilt is able to offer more money and more scholarships than Tennessee and that is 110% THE reason why they are successful!!:neener2:

I usually like Rucker, but that article reminded me of a David Climer article; and that's not a compliment.

Because the article feels long winded, and he reminds me of many of Climer's articles back in the day. Especially how he says "If you think Serrano should be gone, I can't argue with you"...then pretty much proceeds to argue against that, but in a wishy washy "I'm not saying, but just saying" way.

In the end I felt like it told me what I already knew. I can understand if I wasn't the intended audience, but if I'm not interesting in UT baseball then I likely wouldn't read the article, and if I am interested then I'm already well aware of the situation UT baseball is in.

As someone else said, it details already known problems and that's about it.

Thanks. I was just curious what you meant.
