Nice Stuff About or Players

good stuff woods. I know you catch a lot of flack for being 'different' but i like your style. Also did not know about smith being hurt, knowing a bone was broken in his hand drastically changes my opinion of him, but some folks wont appreciate that. consider me no longer one of the 'fahr smith' group anymore

Saulsberry and Jordan William will be the be surprises of this season on that list. Jordan has always shown flashes of having great potential and being under Coach Strip for a second year show do wonders for him. Same for Saulsberry if he comes back 100% watch out he could really blow up. I personally would love to see these two start on the D-line this year. Would go a long way in making sure our front seven is serviceable

Did they know Smith had a broken hand? I hope not because I don't understand why he would be in the game if so.

I'm anxious to see George Bullock. While kicking was not a big issue in 2013, I want to see his booming leg that's been the topic of many rumors. Were they just to tease us? I hope not. It would be nice to have consecutive years where I don't have to leave for the restroom for all field goal attempts.

Josh Smith will surely factor in to the rotation but the process of recruiting over him is already well underway... kid can't catch on Saturdays. Pearson, Malone, K. Jackson, P Williams (2015) are all much more talented and cant possibly have near the extreme case of the yips that Smith has on game days. Most kids show the most improvement between years 1 and 2 so there's hope that he can overcome his drop issues from last year and provide quality depth behind the studs this year.

Btw, I'm not sure if his father or his sister wrote the article, but I'm not buying he had a broken bone in his hand. No way you run a WR out there with a broken hand, especially when he couldn't catch a case of the crabs in a whorehouse to begin with.

I remember there was a time when Zach Rogers was the butt of all jokes and it wasn't until his senior season that he finally got it all together.

Let's hope the kid pulls it together before his senior season. He has some talent and a good feel for how to get open but he was a disaster trying to catch the ball. We're clearly gonna bring in better, more talented WRs, but there's a spot for him this year in an 8-9 WR rotation if he can overcome his Gameday jitters. I should ease up on the kid but for some reason, he's the one player that most embodied the 2013 team's failures for me.

Actually, I had seen mention of his injury months ago. I didn't pay it much mind then because my focus was on the QB injury issues. But I vaguely remember this being mentioned. As for his playing regardless, some players are driven to play despite injury, sometimes to their detriment. Lane practiced despite his hand injury. Neal played despite some leg injury. I think Maggit played despite turf toe for a while. Worley wanted back in the game despite his thumb injury.

Football is a macho sport. Players playing when they shouldn't is not unheard of. Jack Youngblood - Broken arm and leg. Nick Sundberg- broken arm. Tony Pike - broken arm. They had no business playing in that condition but, there they were. So why is it a stretch to think Josh had a broken finger bone? In the macho world of football, the attitude is walk it off or put some dirt on it. That 'tude supersedes being perceived as a crybaby or momma boy. I think it was Neal or Lane who criticized himself for not letting the coaches know he was hurt and the injury got worse as a result. You and I are not out there with those young men so have no basis for pooh poohing them.

I agree with this. I also have a pet peeve where I routinely watch high school kids kickoff into and through the end zone to watch Palardy finally get to the point where a few of his made it into the end zone inconsistently. Can we finally get someone on scholly that can execute a kickoff consistently deep into the end zone? Heaven forbid we find a kid that can consistently get one out the back ... sheesh!

I recall Smith's knee injury, he missed a game because of it iirc. But don't remember anything about a brOken hand.

Grew up playing football myself like probably most guys on this board, so I fully understand the culture...and I've never questioned Smith's toughness, no reason to. But I have questioned his ability to catch a football in a D1 football game because he was arguably our worst WR last year despite being told he was all-world in practice. I have a very difficult time believing Butch would've run a WR, who kinda needs a set of healthy hands to be successful, out there on Saturdays with a broken hand. Guess stranger things have happened.

Nice post woodsman. I truly hope TS can be a force at DT this year with Owen Williams and Obrien. Our DL has sucked for too long.

I remember Justin Harrell playing the Florida game with a torn bicep. I don't recall him being very effective, but I admire that toughness.

Could like in the Lane or Neal case with Josh not telling the coach about his injury until very late in the season. coaches don't always know everything about their players. We don't know. We weren't out there.

Though one would like to think that was true, it wasn't that many years ago that we played Jason Mitchell at LB, and he had showed a bright future early in his career and just disappeared on the field at the last, only to find out later that he was trying to gut it out with a torn-up knee. How that can be hidden, I don't know. It shouldn't happen, but sometimes it does.
