Nico’s Greatest Threat to Winning Heisman

If Nico is going to have any shot at the Heisman, Dylan Sampson will have to slow his roll and let Nico actually have to carry us to some wins.

The guy is scoring a touchdown on 20% of the times the ball is handed to him. Averaging 7.9 a carry on 45 carries and 10 a reception on 7 receptions.

Dylan has 9 touchdowns while playing maybe 6 quarters of football. He had 8 touchdowns the entire year last year, heck Jaylen Wright only had 4!

Truly crazy problem to have. Nico is incredible, we have all already seen it but so many folks sleeping on Dylan and what he has done in such short work this year is insane. If he keeps those numbers up this coming weekend people better wake up. I understand that production won’t be sustainable as games get tougher but he is only 4 touchdowns away from tying the total he and Jaylen had in 2023.

Heupel attacks defenses with the best method to beat someone and as long as he can score 50 plus and win with runs and passes to backs and tight ends, then that is main reason # 8 won't get Heisman chance. It's all about game plans, play calling and execution. As long as this is working and we are winning, you will continue to see

Like @hndog609 says, traditional RBs are not nearly as important as they used to be in today's landscape. Ashton Jeantry is the only traditional RB that has a path if he can stay healthy. Boise should be favored in the rest of their regular season games. IF Boise & Jeantry actively go for the Heisman then it will be an interesting race.

Jeantry had 200 yards against Oregon, 3 TDs, 7.7 YPC. He's averaged 10 YPC, gained 450 yards & 9 TDs over 2 games. He's got the stuff.

Will Nico get there this year? Vegas believes it's possible. It would take Tennessee going undefeated or nearly undefeated & Dart, Ward & Gabriel perhaps regressing a bit. At the current pace, it will be hard to beat out those guys, they have a clear edge on the pack. Nico, Milroe, Ewers not far behind.

Nico hasn't even played an SEC team yet and his numbers are low.

Don't think he will be in top 5 unless UT wins the SEC.

Lets be happy with both our leaders being top 3 in SEC.

OMG. Just stop.

How about we get a quality win or two over some actual competition first before we start popping the champagne.

It starts this weekend with OK.

Firstly no RB has won since Derrick Henry. Like the MVP in the NFL it would take an extraordinary campaign for any RB to win the Heisman.
Secondly, I think the biggest threat to Nico winning the Heisman is keeping numbers up against lesser opponents. As it stands now Nico is 6th in yards and tied for 4th in TD in just the SEC at this point. Creaming opponents early can do that for QB stats. It's entirely possible snaps could be limited for Nico and Dylan against KY, MSSt & Vandy. At least somewhat possible against AR and even FL and basically a given against UTEP.

The real key is does he look really good, statement game good, against OK/AL/GA. If Nico balls out under the big lights that will carry some weight beyond raw stas in most voters eyes but stats will still matter.
IMO Henry won because he had great stats but was also a physical freak of a running back at his size which Sampson isn’t.

Hard to envision Boise State producing a Heisman Trophy winner and it has nothing to do with their player’s talent. That trophy is a hype / popularity contest that’s likely always going to a large market program who’s competing for a natty.

Would love either winning the Heisman, but it's not happening. Ewers was gonna run away with it, guess it depends on how long he's out.
