I have not been following the boards as closely this year so not sure if someone posted this earlier in the year if they have I am sorry.

Nico is NOT going to have a 400 yard game. Nico is NOT going to have a 3-4 TD game this year. He is NOT going to go 28/38. He is NOT going to "breakout" in the post season or anytime else this season. We are not going to score more than 35 points (not counting UTEP) on anyone this year with Nico. I LOVE Nico and what he brings to the table and he has a SUPER HIGH ceiling and can lead this team to a great season NEXT year or the year afterwards, but just not now. He has some growth to do he has put the ball on a frozen rope and has had flashes of greatness in him. Most football players see the most growth between their freshman and sophomore year (or 1st and 2nd year in the system/coach). I think he will make great improvements during spring/summer workouts and then fall camp. He has the talent we all saw it at Oklahoma, NC State, and flashes of it (Some of it was NOT his fault TWO TD's dropped one by a hit and one by the ground). He will only get better as he plays in this system his 2nd year. IF......IF he is doing the same things next year of overthrown balls, not throwing to his checkdown passes or missing open recievers THEN we can start having conversations about his future with the team, but that is a LOOOOOOOOONNNNGGG way away from today.

Nico was on point Saturday night - got zero help from his receivers. Had 2 dropped TD's and another to Nimrod across the middle that he likely takes to the house. He could have easily had 3 TD's. He looked much better Sat night... I don't recall a single overthrown ball - but could be mistaken. Had some perfect throws downfield.

Nico SHOULD have had 400+ against Kentucky. Nico SHOULD have had 4 td's vs Kentucky. Nico DID go 28/38 against Kentucky. Tennessee will score 35+ this week. Nico can only give the WR'S a catchable ball then it's on them to make the play which he did against Kentucky and the WR's let him down. That's all you can ask for from the QB. It was dang close to a true breakout game. My prediction, Nico does breakout and cement his legacy November 16th in Athens. He has already beat Florida and Bama and the kid is getting better every single play. He made some monumental throws against Bama in the 2nd half and carried it over the next game against Kentucky.

Had the 1 poorly thrown pass that should have been pick late in the 4th quarter. Had another 1 -2 passes that were just a hair too long. Other than that, he was great.

Nico will have a Chattanooga type game against UTEP. He's due.

Kid is 8-1 as a starter, doesn’t do anything dumb to cost us games, is starting to figure it out on the rollouts and when to scramble. Future is looking good. About as good as we can ask for from a freshman qb right now.
There have been many redshirt freshmen through the years who have been better than Nico. He’s not a hopeless, worthless quarterback, but he also hasn’t been as good as we could ask. He has been a disappointment to this point, though Saturday he looked pretty good despite his receivers not helping him out.

My concern for Nico is next year. We are losing a LOT after this year on both sides of the ball. So while HE might be better next year, what about everyone around him? We are recruiting well, but we're not reloading like some other programs do.

I have NEVER seen so many NOTS in one post. You SHOULD add !!!!!!!!! NEXT time instead of ONLY CAPS. MAYBE we will AGREE with you NEXT time. You do realize TWO DROPPED touchdowns EQUALS 42 points? Also, if we BEAT Georgia or LOSE a CLOSE game and MAKE it to the playoffs, you would NOT consider this a "great year"?

How about you name all those "many" redshirt freshman qb's that have been better than Nico. This should include (4) or fewer ints through 8 games, (9) or more tds, completed 70% or higher of their passes (thats even with all the drops) and has led his team to a 7-1 record, including wins over Alabama and Florida. I'll hang up and listen.

Exactly…. He’d have had 100 more yards passing had the receivers caught the easy throws

A disappointment? Stats are not the end all be all. He beat Florida and Bama. Made some big plays against Bama. We are 7-1, have the SEC championship game right in front of us if we win out and a college football playoff spot potentially. That's not a disappointment. If we were 5-3 then I get it, but we are in a best case scenario 8 games into the season. That's not a disappointment to me.

We left a possible 37 points on the field Saturday night. 3 dropped TD passes, one overthrow to a wide open receiver, and 3 very makeable field goals.

Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston both won the Heisman as a redshirt freshman. Winston went undefeated and won a national championship. Tua Tagovailoa was a Heisman runner up and played in the national championship.

As true freshmen, Jalen Hurts was SEC player of the year and made it to the championship game. Trevor Lawrence won a national championship as a true freshman. Nico isn’t having a year anywhere close to what any of those guys had.

In football, and even in fashion, there's no once size fits all. And that includes the Volgod, Peyton Manning, as a freshman. But canniVols will never understand, nor care about that. They just got to find something to player-hate for, and harp on it.

Speak for yourself with this moronic drivel. Nico is 4-1 in his first five SEC games, and his team is in the hunt for conference and national titles. That is the stat that counts the most. And I would not call that a “disappointment” in any way.

And he is improving every week.

He has had game winning drives the last 3 weeks, something he didn't do against Ark. He turned the corner the 2nd half of the Bama game. The UK was his best of the year. I have complete confidence he can beat everybody left on the schedule.

If I had come on here after the season opener and said “we aren’t going to score a first half point in October, and Nico will only account for 3 touchdowns in our first 5 SEC games,” you would have called that moronic drivel. He’s been more Milton than Hooker, and that is disappointing and not what anyone expected. It doesn’t mean he can’t improve, but he hasn’t been great. The expectation was that he would be great.

He is becoming great week by week. And he will be a Top 10 draft pick when he leaves here.

And BTW, the SEC is just a hair different than the opponent in the opener.
