Nico is what he is THIS year......

He literally ran out of bounds on the last play of the game against Arkansas to seal any chance of winning. Saturday night he slid down in bounds instead of throwing the ball away right before the half to prevent any chance at points. You can tout being 8-1 and then blame all the blunders on being a freshman. Hopefully he gets a lot better very quickly.
Did you miss the Kentucky game?

There have been many redshirt freshmen through the years who have been better than Nico. He’s not a hopeless, worthless quarterback, but he also hasn’t been as good as we could ask. He has been a disappointment to this point, though Saturday he looked pretty good despite his receivers not helping him out.
You reek of idiocy and your troll game is 💩

Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston both won the Heisman as a redshirt freshman. Winston went undefeated and won a national championship. Tua Tagovailoa was a Heisman runner up and played in the national championship.

As true freshmen, Jalen Hurts was SEC player of the year and made it to the championship game. Trevor Lawrence won a national championship as a true freshman. Nico isn’t having a year anywhere close to what any of those guys had.
And they all had supreme talent around the QB that played like it. We have an overrated OL that's been barely serviceable, if not terrible and WRs that haven't made plays that were there to make. Nico has made mistakes too. Difference is we have upperclassmen who play like freshmen when they should be the least of our issues.

I said we should have won 51-18. I forgot Nimrod’s drop that would have gone to the house. We should have won 58-18z. Nico did his job. He is going to be great.

And I am SO stoked and absolutely thrilled about this defense. We can win every game left on the schedule and whatever after that if we can get both sides of the football clicking together.

I have not been following the boards as closely this year so not sure if someone posted this earlier in the year if they have I am sorry.

Nico is NOT going to have a 400 yard game. Nico is NOT going to have a 3-4 TD game this year. He is NOT going to go 28/38. He is NOT going to "breakout" in the post season or anytime else this season. We are not going to score more than 35 points (not counting UTEP) on anyone this year with Nico. I LOVE Nico and what he brings to the table and he has a SUPER HIGH ceiling and can lead this team to a great season NEXT year or the year afterwards, but just not now. He has some growth to do he has put the ball on a frozen rope and has had flashes of greatness in him. Most football players see the most growth between their freshman and sophomore year (or 1st and 2nd year in the system/coach). I think he will make great improvements during spring/summer workouts and then fall camp. He has the talent we all saw it at Oklahoma, NC State, and flashes of it (Some of it was NOT his fault TWO TD's dropped one by a hit and one by the ground). He will only get better as he plays in this system his 2nd year. IF......IF he is doing the same things next year of overthrown balls, not throwing to his checkdown passes or missing open recievers THEN we can start having conversations about his future with the team, but that is a LOOOOOOOOONNNNGGG way away from today.
Idk if you watched the Kentucky game or not, but Nico was slinging dots out there.

Ole Miss put up 63 on Arkansas, Vandy put up 40 on Alabama, Florida nearly went for 50 on Kentucky. These aren’t great defenses that we are struggling against, SEC or not. I hope he does become a top 10 pick, but if he does, it won’t be based on anything he has done to this point.
A&M put up 21 on Arkansas, Missouri was shut out by Alabama, and Kentucky held Georgia to 13 and Vandy and Ole Miss to 20 each since we are doing the transitive thing.

You give Nico the OL protection and WRs Hurts and Trevor and Tua had, and we are having a different discussion. Peyton wasn’t all world his frosh year or NFL rookie year, so it goes both ways. It is a team sport and not all HS QBs develop as quickly as others. We are 7-1 and I don’t care if JG is our qb if we are winning.

Kid is 8-1 as a starter, doesn’t do anything dumb to cost us games, is starting to figure it out on the rollouts and when to scramble. Future is looking good. About as good as we can ask for from a freshman qb right now.
Too much criticism on Nico in my opinion. Aside from being a freshman, he's a young adult, let him develop and stop expecting him to be a perfectionist. QBs get the credit when receivers catch the ball, and oline men keeping him healthy and from being sacked and running for his life. Had you rather have Carson Beck, not knowing when that pick is coming (3 per game)? Lay off Nico, it takes a whole team to be successful.

2 months ago, you would have said I reeked of idiocy if I told you Nico wouldn’t throw for 200 yards in a SEC game until November. You’re lying through your teeth if you claim he has lived up to expectations.
He has lived up to mine. And I’m expecting him to lead us to a national championship this year.

A QBs starting record is the dumbest stat to lead with. Do you honestly think he is responsible for those 8 wins?

Without the three drop passes he likely clears 400 yards or close. But sure.

OP watches too many dumb ESPN shouty shows and has no idea what he’s talking about. He’s just throwing out nonsensical hot takes.

The season ain't over yet; whine if he stumbles & cheer if he excels. Evaluations by fans @ midseason usually turns out to be off the mark; GO VOLS !

OP could be right, simply because we have an overrated WR room.

Next year should be much better offensively.

Dude… shut the hell up. I’m not reading all of that. Freshman starting QB on a 7-1 team ranked #7 in the country. Calm the hell down.

You do realize Nico would have had 400 yards passing and 4 TD'S if the Wr's have caught the ball. Nico played great he needs his teammates to do their jobs
If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts!

That goes both ways. If KY defenders were "doing their job", Nico would have had 2 INTs in that game.

Just saying woulda, coulda & shoulda is a whole lot different than did it.

While I appreciate the intent of this post, I don’t believe “he is what he is”. JM and JG were what they were, but Nico is growing every game. If you mean, he is gonna be a stagnant freshman, making freshman mistakes the rest of the season, you are wrong. If by “is what he is” you mean we’re going to see consistent improvement game to game with flashes of brilliance and moments of inexperience, you are correct. Saturday was indication of that.
