How many RS Freshman have had to play as many night away games in the SEC? It's a tough assignment that's been unique to this new media deal with ESPN
Teams with dual threat QB's always scare the crap out of me. I just wish Tennessee would design more plays that takes advantage of Nico's ability to run the ball and scramble. He scares me as an OSU fan. I think he’s QB1 in the whole sport next year and there is a high ceiling for his performance this weekend
Auburn also used Legion Field as an alternate home field and swapped home and away with Alabama there. So it’s a neutral site for Alabama when they play Auburn and an alternate home field for them when they play Tennessee..That was not a neutral site. Alabama officially used Legion Field as an alternate home field.
I mean they had a contract with the city of Birmingham to play at least 3 home games every year until 1999. They even played their whole 1987 home slate there. It was absolutely an alternate home field for Alabama, and to argue otherwise makes you look like a fool. My saying Legion Field was an alternate home field for Alabama is not a matter of opinion or debate, it is a verified fact.Auburn also used Legion Field as an alternate home field and swapped home and away with Alabama there. You’re cracking me up.![]()
Yeah, I get it. Alabama and Auburn leased Legion Field to host home games because their small towns didn’t have the infrastructure to host a large number of visitors.. It doesn’t change that the students and teams had to make travel arrangements, very much in the same way they play all road SEC games.I mean they had a contract with the city of Birmingham to play at least 3 home games every year until 1999. The Iron Bowl was a neutral site game where each team was given an equal allotment of tickets. But Tennessee is famously not Auburn, and no other team besides got an equal allotment of tickets as Alabama when playing at Legion Field. Neutral fields give both teams an equal allotment.
What made Casey’s road record such an accomplishment was that he only lost one game in a hostile environment in 4 years as a starter. Opposing crowds didn’t throw him off his game. We lost bowl games with him, but it wasn’t because the crowd rattled him or the offenses he led.Yeah, I get it. What are you even trying to debate? That Clausen didn’t have a difficult enough time playing Kansas State in Texas because it wasn’t in Kansas? The game was on the road, regardless of what the fan ratios were. He lost.
I’ve often wondered if he felt more pressure at home, playing in front of our own fans. Maybe Sanders simplified the offense on the road, not trying to do too much against the crowd noise. Whatever it was, the away record is both impressive and puzzling. What made Casey’s road record such an accomplishment was that he only lost one game in a hostile environment in 4 years as a starter. 4 bowl games, 1-3. 0-1 in the SEC Championship. Also beat Wyoming in Nashville to open the 02 season. That’s how he got to 6 neutral site games. Idk exactly how attendance lined up for all of them but I imagine we had enough people there that the crowds couldn’t have been too hostile. 3 of the 4 neutral losses were in the Georgia Dome, which was a house of horrors for Tennessee in the 2000s.I’ve often wondered if he felt more pressure at home, playing in front of our own fans. While not true road games, the neutral site games don’t really add up, either. They were still in front of hostile crowds. Maybe Casey just hated the student sections?
