Nico to UCLA?

I would rate Robinson 5th best all time

1. Manning
2. Hooker
3. Shuler
4. Holloway
5. Robinson
Hard to argue against Robinson but injuries plagued him. Holloway gave his all but wasn't surrounded by great talent. I would have to give Andy Kelly a hard consideration for one of those spots. You have a great list tho. Man, the memories! Some of those games seem like yesterday.

T. Rob was the best UT QB I’ve ever seen. No disrespect to Peyton or others in saying that.
Agree. He didn’t have the best career due to injury…that would be Peyton. But when healthy, he was the best UT QB I’ve ever seen. My ranking, based on who I’d want as a COLLEGE QB, would be:

1) Tony Robinson
2) Peyton Manning
3) Hendon Hooker
4) Heath Shuler
5) Condredge Holloway*
6) Josh Dobbs
7) Casey Clausen
8) Tyler Bray
9) Erik Ainge
10) Andy Kelly

Alan Cockrell is close to making this list. Also, this is just modern QBs. It doesn’t include single wing guys like Majors, who were more RB than QB. Offenses were just too different back then to compare.

*Never saw him play. Before I was born. So I’m basing his ranking on highlights and what I’ve been told.

You are welcome to your opinion. However the
fact that cornerbacks could manhandle WRs at the line of scrimmage, down the field and re-direct their route, without pass interference isn’t an excuse. That is how the game was played in 80’s. It was worse in 70’s. QBs were not protected either.

Peyton was incredible (and I certainly agree among the greats in college and the NFL) given the 4 year resume he had in college and extended NFL career. I also recognize most see him as the best in UT history but to suggest Tony Robinson was a marginal passer isn’t credible and I would even consider disrespectful.

Yes his legs were an asset but he was a classic drop back passer. He only ran the ball 5x per game at UT, mostly on broken plays. Even John Elway ran the ball more often in college per game than T. Rob. Injuries and drugs got the better of him and we likely never even saw his best given he only had 1.5 seasons to build his resume. For the limited time I saw him I thought he was the best. Just my opinion. Most UT fans don’t agree but what does that matter.

Similarly I think Chuck Webb was the best RB I’ve seen at UT and he too was limited in games due to injuries. Many may not consider him the best RB either. Stats being what they are, Robinson’s completion % was on par and he pushed the ball downfield often as his yards per completion was high. Typically with only 3 receivers or tight ends out in a pattern.

Brady is the Goat in the NFL and he couldn’t run a lick. And no I don’t consider McNabb better than Peyton in the NFL either. But still McNabb was likewise more than a just a runner as a 6x All Pro.

Agree with you on Webb, but it’s Webb and Jamal equally at the top spot. Sad that both of them had knee injuries.

As for QBs, here are the stats. We can all draw our own conclusions:

What if UCLA is playing games with fat daddy since Nico’s little brother screwed them on signing day?

I don’t think UCLA is playing games. I think they are playing it smart. They likely said “here is a million dollars.” Go top it.

Why would they offer that? They already have their transfer QB who went through Spring practice and is set for the Fall.

And the kid you have now probably does not have an agent who is going to be shopping him in October to another school.

I like your list. I’d still have Peyton number 1 I think but if Robinson hadn’t got hurt and won a national Championship that would have moved him to number 1 in my book. He was the most electric big play quarterback we ever had for sure. Even though Peyton would have still probably had better pro numbers had Robinson been able to finish the 85 season it could have put him over the top as far as his college career. The rest of your list is very good as well. The only change for me is with Cockrell, I would have to find away to put him at at least 10. Even though Ainge and Bray both are legit mentions for top 10 I would take Cockrell over Bray because my bias is with Cockrell’s effort and I didn’t like Bray’s attitude at times at UT. I do have more respect for Bray after hearing him acknowledge some things while he was at UT. I will say Cockrell,Ainge and Bray are all close in ranking Tennessee quarterbacks. It’s good conversation. You know your football NightHawk Vol and can totally relate with your rankings. GBO

Another one I never saw, but who would be honorable mention on this ranking is Bobby Scott. He was good enough to play for the Saints. He and Dewey Warren were Tennessee’s first good modern passing QBs after switching from the single wing.

I saw both and will never forget the game Warren had against UCLA in Memphis, scoring with time running out in the fourth and fourth quarter. Bobby’s son, Benson, was a QB who gelded the ball for extra points and field goals in the mid-late 1990s. He is currently a Physician @ KOC.

Before I went to law school, I worked at a bank. Bobby came in and saw the last name on my name placard. He asked if I was related to a certain girl he knew in college. I told him she’s my aunt. From then on, he came over to chat every time he came in the bank.

Really nice guy. Had some heart issues a few years back, so I hope his health has returned.

Maybe not, but I'd have an agent and portal papers ready to file before the deadline if I were that kid.

He ain't worth that. They are suckers.

But a million VN bucks says that the media Hypeman propaganda machine gets cranked up in full throttle before the first kickoff.
