I guess they'll let any kind of riff raff in there huh? How was the experience?
I'm playing. i didn't go to a ball. The experience was good. No protestors around where we were. There were demonstrators but you never felt unsafe. No matter how you feel about a party/candidate/politics in general, to live in a country where power can be peacefully transferred from one person to another is impressive. Being here as it went down and thinking about both the Obama and Trunp families and what they were thinking and feeling Thursday and Friday was neat. What we do here is special and to be able to witness it was awesome.
Capitol Hill Police, the TSA, the military and Secret Service do a remarkable job protecting both citizens and dignitaries and are to be commended.
I'd like to just visit Washington one time.
U really should consider it. Give yourself about 4-5 days that way you don't have to rush through things. I've been 3 times in the last 5 years, and still haven't scratched the surface. If you ever decide to go let me know and I'll pass along any helpful info I can

To me the best thing by far was the Holocaust Museum.
Do a night tour of the monuments. I absolutely loved it, especially the FDR. We were going to the holocaust this time but my brother had a work event Thursday morning so it pushed us back. Next time that's a definite to do.
For Joe and anyone else:
If you ever have the chance go to the Naval Academy at Annapolis, that's really cool just to hear about it and see. Plus there's a neat little spot up the hill that was on diners, drive-ins and dives - I think.
Apply early to get clearance for a White House tour.
Take a guided tour of the Capitol.
See a play at Fords.
Go to Mt. Vernon and Arlington.
Monuments and Smithsonians
That's my short list for now.
Plan on 16 hour days and you won't regret it. You'll be tired, but plan out what you want to do and take in as much as you can.
