In principal, I'll have to disagree on two points.
One: When people are younger in age, regardless of the era or its predominant fashion, we prefer novelty over aesthetics or tradition. It makes good sense for players to choose the design of their practice unis, but not when they're representing something larger than themselves. There's a balance and respect there that should be carried over into adult life.
Two: Even a player who grew up a Tennessee fan has only been a fan at the most for 20 years, and likely never paid for tickets with his own money.
Adult Tennessee fans have been buying tickets and merchandise for 20, 30, even 70 years, and are the continuation of over a century of Vols fandom.
I like the uniforms but I will say seeing black uniforms against a green field (football) or mostly green field (baseball) does look betteer than the black against the court that has a lot of orange. I'd like to see them on a neutral or away court.
