Are you saying it's not the same thing because the USWNT is high profile? Or because it's political? Or because the LV's shouldn't be ashamed to lose to some dudes like the USWNT losing to boys? I would guess that the best 15 YO soccer players in the country (who play together and are coached great) are much better at their sport than intramural 20 YO's are at basketball. I think if my out-of-shape,uncoached, unpracticed intramural basketball team back in the day beat the LV's by 40, that would look pretty bad.

As far as high-profile/political goes...yeah they wouldn't get it as bad if they are darlings like Iowa. But if Angel Reese's Lady Tigers got crushed, you would never hear the end of it.

I don’t think it’s the same because the LV’s would be losing to their peers - just male peers.

The USWNT was a different situation entirely in my view. It was more than just the best women’s team in the world losing to 15 year old boys.

There should be absolutely no shame whatsoever in a bunch of 20yo girls losing to a bunch of 20yo boys in a physical matchup of any kind.

UTK needs to stay out of politics. University system is historically liberal though so keep that in mind.

However, Randy Boyd is one of the biggest voices right now at UTK and he is a Republican. If you have issues with UT using Nike, send it to his camp.

Yep. My personal opinion is that UT should just stay out of this... however if people on this message board like the OP are obsessed with getting them involved, then reach out to Randy Boyd.

Frankly, I don't think anything will be done. They are going to go with the provider that brings the more shoes at the best price.

There is no shame in either. WTF. The point is that people will use it to humiliate them, not that they should feel shame from losing to male athletes.

FWIW, in soccer, speed is death, and the women just aren't anywhere near as fast as the boys. I think you got a bad read on this. To get killed by some rando average sized dudes who are out of shape, don't have plays, don't have a coach, don't have training, nothing....they shouldn't beat the Lady Vols by 40 if the women's soccer team shouldn't lose 5-2 to guys who are 3-4 years away from being professionals.

All the national women’s teams play boys. They all lose. It’s not a big deal.

Arsenal Women are scrimmaging the big club’s U16 team.
Why? Because they are bigger and faster than anything they, the Arsenal Women, will face in league play.

From the start I've been saying it's for the sake of protecting the women.

We already agreed that it's not a big deal for boys to beat women, but that's not the way the public treated it here. The women were mocked and ridiculed all over the internet, including here on VN, for years afterward. Australia's women's team lost way worse than the USWNT, but trolls don't care. They just wanna **** on women's sports.

I don't know anything about how British people treat female athletes. I just know how we do things here.

The Aussie women lost to boys. The Brazilian women lost to boys. The English women lost to boys. Nobody cared.
I bet Mia, and Brandy, and that crew lost to boys too. Nobody probably cared.

It is not a reflection on the current US Women that they simply lost to boys. No one would have cared. Their situation was unique - and yes, people mocked them left and right.

But you would deprive the LV’s the opportunity to scrimmage against bigger, stronger, faster to “protect” them? Come on man - that’s limiting them.

Look, I'm not saying they are making some huge mistake, I'm saying that's why you wouldn't do it. They are probably fine to play against boys, but the second somebody puts a female athlete in his crosshairs, and he can Google an article saying she lost to male scrubs by 40, they're gonna use it.

The USWNT thing is unique, but I'm telling you, the online trolling thing with women's sports is rampant.

A friend of mine in the mid 90s was on the practice squad for the Lady Vols. He said that they probably won every scrimmage but there was no way to know because Pat put a lid on their hoop so the LVs could work on defensive rebounding. Loved Pat

I just don’t think we grow women’s sports by “protecting” them. If the LV’s wanna scrimmage other college aged boys I say let em - it will only make them better.

The USWNT was all caught up in a very public money dispute, flag protests, and simple likability issues with one of their biggest stars.
It wasn’t about just losing to some 15 year old boys.

And I do not believe the LV’s would get hated on for testing themselves vs bigger, stronger, faster. Jmo.
