No 1000 Yard Receivers This Season?

I don't know that we'll have 1000 yd WR this year because of the deep rotation we'll play, as OP pointed out, though I suspect it may tighten up a little bit vs better competition...maybe, maybe not.

I think the only 2 guys who can possibly get to 1000 yds this year are North and Pearson. One or the other, not both. They both have great size, speed and ball skills and will have the most opportunities with targets vertically up the field. Malone would be the 3rd dark horse candidate because he has those same attributes but he's still green and learning as a freshman....I can see the lights coming on for him midseason or so but then he'll have too few games and opportunities to post those types of cumulative numbers IMHO.

Anywho, jmo, and it'll be fun to watch these young studs running all over the place making plays.

By mid season the best of the best will start to distance themselfes from the others and yhe qb will be looking for his clutch guys. Then the numbers will start to rise for certain people. I do think our receiver pool is so deep that some VERY good receivers are going to rarely see the field unless injuries and grades catch up with us. This year, no one gets 1000.

Looking at the stats from the USU game it hit me that with all of the receiver talent UT has they will probably not have a 1000 yard receiver. Worley spread the ball around effectively against USU:

Name Catches Yards
Josh Smith 3 for 48
Jason Croom 2 for 41
Marquez North 4 for 38
Pig Howard 6 for 37
Von Pearson 3 for 27
Josh Malone 2 for 26
Ethan Wolf 3 for 26
Jalen Hurd 2 for 16
Brendan Downs 1 for 12
Marlin Lane 1 for 2
Daniel Helm 1 for 0

With the makeup of this offense do you think the trend of many players catching passes will continue?

The offense is designed to get the ball into playmakers hands and let them do their thing. Needless to say, we have a ton of playmakers so it wouldn't shock me to see at least 8-10 receivers with catches every game. You could really tell they were trying to Pig involved though. Maybe trying to give him early confidence after what he went through this offseason

I disagree on the attempts being spread out. Competition is important i know. But the way Butch runs his offense. Multiple receivers will see the field. There for i think it will always be spread out among many guys. Whether they catch it when thrown to them is a different story. My biggest concern is how the pass rush will be contained. Our DL was inexperienced but much faster than the OL of Utah State. When we see bigger and faster guys across from our OL is a little scary. Hopefully Worley gets more comfortable than he looked. And im not saying he didnt look comfortable. Just saying there is improvement even for someone like Peyton. Hope you all get the point. But if Worley is able to keep improving and make good reads. Then i think getting rid of the ball quickly will help with protection. But back on point. I dont see a 1000 yard receiver as well. Doubt we see a 1000 yard rusher as well.
go watch worley in the first half then watch the second half..he got comfy in that game..

We won't have a 1,000 yard receiver but it's not like that is an easy feat...In our history we have only had six and three of those were with Peyton Manning at QB (Joey Kent '95, '96 and Marcus Nash '97)...I think North will get over 600 yards.

If we get 6 wins and go bowling, I don't care how many yards any of the WR gets. Wins are all that matters.

the 1000 yard rusher is what bothers me,hopefully the ball will be spread around a bunch of receivers and it will balance it's self out
