No Cup Drivers From Tennessee

nobody finding a ride for Jeff Gordon was an incredibly stupid mistake for open wheel racing. they kid (at the time) was practically holding out a tin cup on the sidewalk begging for a ride.

No doubt, and not keeping Tony Stewart and Robbie Gordon wasn't very smart either, although I'm not sure what they could have done.

Ken Schrader was the first of the Midget/Sprint Car/Champ Car champions to go to stock cars rather than Indy Cars. Since there has been J. Gordon, Ryan Newman, Kasey Khane, Dave Blaney, Carl Edwards, Mike Bliss, and I'm probably forgetting someone.

Oh, I don't doubt it, that's why I want them back. I wish Newman would have picked him up rather than getting Mansell or keeping Mario in the seat. But yeah, considering that's the straw that broke the camel's back as far as TG breaking away, that was a pretty retarded move.

Tony Stewart wanted to leave, I'm pretty sure. He should have been able to make it(and did, IIRC) in the IRL. Was he ever interested in CART?

And I forgot about Carl, but he probably chose the right path, he would have gotten huge like Tony Kanaan, but Kanaan is what, 5'6", and Carl is taller than 6'0 so I doubt he have been comfortable in the cars anyway. Never knew Mike Bliss was an open wheeler.

if i'm not mistaken, Lefler is another name to add to the list.

i don't really count Robby Gordon. at the time, he had a top flight ride and sponsorship. he is as responsible as anyone for his departure. however, if he doesn't run out of gas 2 laps from winning the 500, he may be a different story.

the biggest coup NASCAR ever pulled was convincing their fanbase that 15th was a good finish and those drivers are superstars too.

second is their invasion of USAC drivers.

I thought about Leffler, but I was limiting my list to those in Sprint Cup. Anyone on the Cup team owner's next "Guy to Have" list right now?
