No Doubt about It

Worley again rose to the upper limits of his mediocrity.

As for the running game, I'm beginning to think it's a scheme problem. This may be way off, but it feels like we're trying to power run with zone blocking, which can only work if the QB pulls it and takes off a lot more often. And, as much as I like Hurd, and expect huge things from him, Lane needs the bulk of the carries. Should have gotten most of the carries last year, too. I'm not sure what Butch has against Marlin, but I'm betting if they ever give him 20 carries, he'll put up big numbers.

Still, great win. Defense was stellar.

He is definitely throwing the ball with a lot more confidence. If he could just get his deep ball on target I think the Vols could have a punchers chance in every game.

I think we all need to CALM down on the Oline play last night. Here's the rap. New Oline first game jitters so what does the Coach of UTAH do? Well if you watched the game you saw part of it. The DEF line of UTAH constantly JUMPED and SHIFTED - right on time. Now you can expect this. But what you don't expect and what is illegal and dirty is the Utah DEF line was shouting out our GO command in the Cadance. Becaue the crowd noise the Refs couldn't hear but it was causing our Oline to JUMP and finally the refs got it stopped after the half. It was dirty play on an inexperienced line and apparantly our guys didn't take time to tell a ref -OR- the refs were being told but couldn't get it stopped. Think about it - All oponents will be trying everything they can this year to exploit our new Olines and Dlines - even if it's dirty play like this.

I don't think it is time for folks to be too drunk on the big orange kool-aid yet. Overall, the Vols made a good impression last night, but there were some mental mistakes that need to be cleaned up. Comparing this game to the overall play from last season, there were some big steps taken, but they still have a ways to go to rate being ranked highly.

However, Worley did gain my confidence as well. He proved he can lead well, and played with a better command of the offense. Sure, part of it is having some overall better skill players around him, but he looked good individually. The main thing I was looking for in this game was steady improvement by the team, and what we got exceeded my expectations. Now, I look for them to clean up the mistakes, and take more strides against Arkansas State. They have come a long way, but there is still much more to do with a tough schedule.

If that was going on, I will take your word for it. However, I have always believed offensive linemen should be disciplined enough to know the difference between their QB's voice and those of the opponent. If a defensive player pulls that nonsense, you don't go crying to the officials like a 5 year old running to his mommy because the brat next door made him drop his ice cream. You jack him up a few times until he decides he is better off on the bench or he shuts up.

Good to see Worley spreading the ball around. Saw that 10 or 11 guys had receptions. That was what stood out to me

Worley is the leader of this offense. He was lights out tonight. The light really did come on before his injury last year. I know longer have any doubt in his ability to run and execute this offense.
:hi:
Hats of to this young man. I am no longer a doubter. We got ourselves a good QB in Knoxville guys.

273 YDS, 3 TD NO PICKS

Not bad, Not bad at all.

Go Vols:rock:

Versus what kind of competition? I remember similar kind of numbers from a previous QB here that EVERYONE but me was the greatest and those stats were against LESS THAN STELLAR opponents!

The only thing I didn't like about Worley was the two sacks he took. I'd like to see him not get sacked.
