Plan ahead for rape, incest? | WE Blog | Wichita Eagle Blogs

Insert foot in mouth.

I have problems with this view on several levels. Aside from the obvious stupidity of it, defending a bill that prohibits PRIVATE insurance companies from covering abortions just doesn't seem right. Like it or not, constitutionally it is still legal, and I'm not sure I like the idea telling insurance companies what they can and can't cover as long as it is still legal.

BTW, As of earlier this evening, I couldn't find this on the web any place except blogs and Huffington Post.

Plan ahead: Ladies, stop dressing like sluts.

Been a good month for stupid comments. Doubt that Legislation holds in Kansas.

It's Kansas... not sure there's a more anti-abortion state in the union.

Thanks MG for knowing about this.
I talked to Tiller before a trial and he told me that he personally performed more of the "partial birth" procedures than the number NAF and Clinton quoted as occurring nationally.

It was a farce. Lots of lying.

I have always been for rape and incest exceptions to everything. They represent a tiny tiny tiny fraction that is much lower than 1 percent and they are used as a rhetorical club because everyone knows that requiring one group of people to pay for another persons elective abortion is not going to fly.

Kansas, the state of Kathleen Sibelius and George Tiller?

Kansas politics are incredibly complex. There is absolutely no way, IMO, that this bill gets to Brownback's desk.

The suburbs surrounding KC are full of fiscal conservatives and social liberals. Lawrence is about as left as a town can get. Western Kansas though, is a Christian right stronghold that is still pushing to remove science from schools.

So in addition to college funds, I need to start depositing money into my young daughters' "rape abortion" funds?

Dang.

Vader I would spend the money on a good gun. You could know with certainty your daughter will never be raped. Help her live in a safe place and maintain situational awareness. Do not let her walk around at night by herself in places that are not safe.

Also make sure she is not a person who dates rapists or who drinks mixed drinks made by people she does not know.

Stranger rapes are incredibly rare. Under the standards of rape in TN (I would not have given consent sober to this sexual contact) many of my friends in college were raped by husky girls.

Is he going to lock her away in a tower? Follow her everywhere she goes?

Right. Rapists always make sure to hand out their business cards ahead of time.

Real,
You may not like it. I have done counseling for rape abuse victims...girls who avoid certain situations fall victim about as often as people get HIV from blood transfusions (which is like getting struck by lightning rare).

You know how nervous I was about having HIV? 0%. I did not have unprotected sex, did not use IV drugs and did not bare knuckle box in Zulu tribal areas in South Africa.

I often ended up escorting inebriated girls to protect them during school, and while I thought they could have made better choices by not getting hammered, I was proud of them that they knew better than to put themselves in a dangerous situation.

The odds might drop, however, they do not drop to 0%. Full grown, strong, men who have been trained in higher level combatives have been raped. It happens. Carrying a weapon around or avoiding certain areas/activities does not guarantee that one will not be raped.

What??? Are we talking about a man whose daughter is in prison taking a shower? Are we talking about a person who lives in Cairo and who frequents protests with her head uncovered? Someone who lives in China and likes to publicly defecate on Chairman Mao posters?

If you are talking about people in the United States who are careful and live in safe areas, the rate is so staggeringly low it is like getting struck by lightning.

People experience shame for many reasons when they talk about rape and sexual assault, but one of the primary reasons is the guilt they feel for the situation they were in when it occurred. They were the one with the unlocked door when they fell asleep on the couch or (MUCH MORE OFTEN) the one who drank a doctored drink or went back to the place of the guy they just wanted to fool around with.

None of the above excuses rape even a tiny bit. It does mean that Antoine Dodson is as credible a voice as you will find for those who try to pretend that rape is a danger for most folks.

My high school girlfriend was raped. She grew up in one of the most affluent areas of the country, went to good schools, hung out with people we all knew, and did not drink. Fact is, she was 5'1, 95 lbs and, as a cross country runner, went on long runs, during the day, through local parks.

She was not wearing provocative clothing. She was not where she shouldn't have been (are you really going to argue that women should not be running alone during the day in highly trafficked parks). Rape happens in the US.

You have a real chip on your shoulder, don't you? You seem to go out of your way to insult Christians.

IIRC, rapist have a high recidivism rate. A second conviction should carry a life sentence.

You went out of your way to feel insulted. That is a personal problem you should address on your own.

sjt, I said somewhere else that yes I believe in castration for a second offense rapist with their prison sentence.

Thereal,
I am sorry to hear about your hs girlfriend. You went from trained combatant men to a girl who is 5'1 and weighs 95 pounds. Yes...someone who is that small should not be running in secluded locations by themselves unless they have a gun and the situational awareness to be the required distance away to pull it and kill a rapist.

When I was 15 I backpacked into another state from my house with my brother. There is a zero percent chance that my daughter would be allowed to do the same thing unless she was with a large man.
