Scotty Hopson dribbles the ball off his knee, throws the ball away, misses easy layups, and pouts when he can't score, we miss him on the court and our offense today showed it.

At least this place is much unlike most of the forums I visit, I would've expected a U MAD post by now.

I don't think much would have changed with him on the floor. Tatum and Harris picked up the scoring nicely. We just don't have any clue what we are doing in a half court offense.

Do you think Hopson would have had his own ball out there? He would have just taken away the points that Tatum, Harris, and McBee had. Hopson isn't some offensive juggernaut that can't be stopped.

Would you rather have Hopson on the floor or have Mcbee take the majority of those minutes? It's really not that hard to see we missed Hopson today.

Still thinks he makes our team at least one point better. Which would have been the difference in regulation

But when arguably your best player is out, the other players don't just automatically make up for the points he would have. If they did then losing a player would have no effect on a team at all.

Maybe, maybe not. I think we lost today due to really bad turnovers, bad shot selection, and some bad fouls. I would argue those are three areas Hopson doesn't really help you in, but I agree we obviously are better with him than without.

For most teams it doesn't, but we have capable scorers on this team. Hopson doesn't average 29 a game. He averages 17, and Harris and Tatum are very capable at picking up the slack. Hopson doesn't do anything else on the floor but score, so let's not pretend he lifts this team up to another level.

I would bet that Bama's defensive scheme would have been totally different if Hopson were on the floor. Who knows what would have happened. But to play effective defense on Hopson, you have to be all over him on the perimeter and in the paint. If we played the way we did today with Hopson, we would have won this game in regulation by 8-11 points.

Why? What does Hopson do that would require changing the defense? Sorry, I disagree. I think the zone today would have eaten Hopson alive. He's just not that dynamic of a player on offense.

I don't think you're giving Hopson enough credit. He's notorious for being inconsistent, but he has played exceptionally lately. If you give him the benefit of the doubt, we would have won. IMO, we probably would have still won even if Scotty played poorly.

I think we lost because of Melvin Goins idiotic shots (0/7) and not being mentally prepared in the first half due to playing a Thursday night road game in another state. Goins is allowed one bad game, he's played tough this year, but he can't keep jacking when he hasn't hit squat all night long.

We really beat ourselves. Would have won the game if we hit a couple more free throws at the end of the second half. Bama's half court offense was worse than ours. We gave them too many points off TO's in the first half.

That's a bit of a stretch. He's been solid, and I think we probably win this game if he's on the floor. But, he's only been exceptional in one game this season, Pitt.

He was good against LSU as well, but I'm pretty sure I could have scored double digits against that team.

Again, I don't dislike Hopson, but I'm not pretending he is some gamechanging player. When he is on 3 times a year, he's great. When he's not, he's an ok scorer and decent open 3 point shooter. That's about it. He's also good for a lot of turnovers and pretty bad defense. He is what he is.

In his absence, we played McBee 25 minutes. I'm not a huge fan at all of Hopson's game, but he's about like Kobe Bryant compared to McBee.
