No offensive coordinator used against us

I wonder if the larger question is what coach would come to a university where the fan based is so crazy as to be ungrateful for back to back nine win seasons. I know all the responses (we are Alabama's equal and would win every year with a good staff, this team should have won the East and gone to the Sugar Bowl, etc.) But you would have to consider whether you'd want to come to a place where nine wins in the toughest conference in America is considered a disaster.

You're right. Its the TN fans' fault for us having mediocre coaches. Our fans are the school's biggest selling point. But hey, we've won 9 whole games two years in row! As you insinuated- we should be 'grateful' how things turned out this year. My bad.

Have to agree. I can't help but to think some of UT's 'fans' are our own worst enemy. Majors had it correct years ago.

In what way? For being upset we lost to SC and Vandy in a coach's 4th year when we were picked to win the East? What are your expectations? Mine were to win the East this year.

I have second hand knowledge that a local recruit has already said that more than one school has contacted him and said why would you be firmly committed if you don't even know who your offensive coordinator will be, he is firm and not going anywhere and is an '18 recruit. Still kind of interesting how quickly other programs load the ammo...I am sure we do it as well.

Seems like A desparate move from a coach not realizing that we will have an OC by the time this kid even starts his sr yr of Hs

Eh.... back to back 9 win seasons where we've left wins on the table in agonizing fashion. UF and OU last year, and (ugh) USC and Vandy this year. Look, it's great we've come this far, but currently, unless something changes in the next season, Jones may have reached his peak. I think it's fair for us to be upset about losing to a weak USC team with the East on the line and to a weak Vandy team with the Sugar Bowl on the line. I mean, seriously. It's not like we lost to Bama with either of those things on the line. It was USC/Vandy.

Fair to be upset? Yes.

Fair to whine about it in such a manner repetitively with such venom on every social media outlet including myspace and foursquare? Not really unless you don't care what kind of impact you have on the overall perception of the program.

The first, when read by others gives the sense of being upset...with good reason. The second gives the impression of

I have zero connection or first-hand information. It came from someone who knew someone. In casual conversation . I have no first hand knowledge or connection. I just always find it interesting the things folks use against us and the things we use against others in recruiting battles

It's crazy not to think opposing staffs are using the "no OC" thing against us. They will say anything to get an edge, just like Butch and staff probably do the same things. Recruits/families know that Butch will replace the position with a person that is perceived to be equal or better. The media may play it out with a different opinion and influence the thoughts of recruits/families.

Just tell the recruit it means we aren't taking the first available. We are working on getting the best.

I thought Taylor shut down his recruitment process? He's still talking to other schools?

A smart coach can easily turn this in their favor.

Hey Jimmy, you're likely going to get a call from other coaches regarding the OC position. You see, it's a dirty business and unfortunatley some coaches don't have ethics, will say anything, and stoop to any level to manipulate you and/or sabatoge your recruitment. They might say things like, "how can you go there......."

I hear some coaches are using the fact that there is a river near the stadium against us. "You could drown playing there."

With the ole "If you're not wim'me you're again'me" attitude, I'm not surprised what all other schools use in recruiting tactics. But no offensive recruit should worry really because the head coach is so involved with the offense.

Well we plan on having the highest scoring defense in college football history . So put that in your pipe and smoke it.
