No QB contrvoersy at UF, sorry guys

I'm not hoping. But I think it is probably going to happen anyway.

I don't think Meyer's offense will work against good SEC defenses with anyone short of Vince Young at the helm... but especially not with someone like Leak. Too small, too slow... its just not his game.

UF has O-line problems so at some point in the season Meyer will need to go with a more mobile QB since the RB's also haven't exactly lived up to their talent levels. Although there is a slight sense of poetic justice for Leak after what he said and did as a recruit, I hate that a guy who has put his heart and soul into the game and the Gators will be dealing with a scheme that doesn't fit his skills.

BTW, QB controversies have little to do with guys disliking each other. It has to do with when fans, coaches, media, and players start speaking or acting on their differing opinions about who the QB should be.

If the Meyer system were right for a league with LB's that run 4.4's then this would be the ideal situation for Tebow. Sit and learn from a guy who's as smart as any SEC QB ever then take over as a soph with a senior's experience.

I just think this system will struggle and especially with a questionable and thin o-line.

If Leak struggles and/or after you lose your first game. The critics will come out and controversy will grow in the media which will cause feeding frenzy amoung the fans. Happens to almost every team who has two good QB's on roster.

I think it is ineveitable that the UF fans will want to see Tebow if it becomes evident that UF cannot win the East. Despite the preseason respect the Gators are getting, UF has the toughest schedule in the SEC (maybe in the nation) and there is probably no way the Gators will make it to Atlanta. I would not be the least bit surprised to see Tebow starting agasint Vandy. I do agree that Tebow will not play agaisnt the Vols, barring unforseen circumstances.

If we lose our first game, which is Southern Miss, it will be a blood bath.

Actually, I think that is true. If we lose three SEC games early and are out of the running, you probably will see folks clamoring for Tebow to get in there and get some experience.

I think that, because Leak is a senior, you will see Tebow play. If Leak were a junior, I'd want to try my hardest not to play Tebow so he could be red-shirted and get that extra year.

As to the other posters commenting on the O-line, I think you have hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head. That is where we have our biggest concerns, in my opinion. I think it very fortunate that we are going to start with two decent teams (that we should beat easily).

But when we come up to UT, I suspect we will have a TON of false start penalties. I am sure they will try one of those practice schedules where they are blaring stuff at the O-linemen ansd using hand signals.

Actually I didn't mean lose your first game just your first loss of season. First one would be blood bath. Don't think you will lose that one.

I know several Gator fans who already want Tebow to start. I've also seen on other boards where your fellow followers of all things evil want Tebow to start. Urban Cryer is media savvy (outside of the crying) and knows what to say. But I think it will only take a hickup for him to make the switch. He knows he cannot afford a bad year. Or for that matter a mediocre year.

It's always funny how popular the backup QB is no matter where you go.

I dread the day that Tebow starts at QB. From what I've seen and heard he is extremely talented and pretty much a perfect fit for Meyers offense. Some people like to claim that Meyers offense won't work in the SEC because of the speed but I've got a bad feeling this isn't true and Tebow will end up the Alex Smith of the SEC

Tebow is more in line with what Urban Cryer wants and needs. I agree. But there is a huge difference in what Alex Smith did at Utah and what they will face in the SEC every year. They will be good because the talent level will be better. I just don't believe a qb can take the pounding like what he will get in the SEC and stay healthy. It's hard enough on RB's who are lower to the ground and don't let themselves get stretched out very often. I'm in the camp opf having to see it to believe it.

Tebow will be as good an opportunity as the Gators will ever have to see if that system can work in the SEC. I am not much persuaded by those who say that it won't work in the SEC because of SEC defensive speed. I think that argument is bogus because the offense has more speed, too. Its not a speed-issue. Its a match-up issue and Florida will always have the guns to compete with that.

The SEC punishment issue is legit. Can he take the kind of hits he will be subjected to in the SEC and keep going? If he can, he's NFL material big time.

no one is a bigger Gator hater than me...but is it just me or does everyone forget the touch passes Leak has killed us with or the slant routes where they catch the ball about the time hes hit only to have the wr get 10 yards after the catch? I want Leak to collapse into a pool of failure but I don't see where everyone gets the idea he isn't talented...almost a weurrfel type talent. Gawd im gonna get so flamed....

No, not by me you won't. I am a big fan of Leak in a drop-back system. The kid has ALWAYS had a strong and accurate arm. He is also very smart and studies film like utfantilidie studies porn. He's taken some criticism that he can't run the ball, can't take the hits. and that may be true. But as a pure three step and let it go kind of QB I think he is excellent.

I think we lost to SC twice, too.

utfan, there was a conversation this a.m. on local sports show (in Orlando) that Donovan declined to sign a contract extension. Apparently, he said he did not feel right doing it because Horford and Noah had given up on big bucks to stay and play and he felt like it would be wrong for him to receive a windfall for the success the team had whereas the players are sacrificing.

I don't believe that for one second. Eddie Munster must be looking at something else.

the gators shouldnt be worried about the QB position. The offensive line and rb positions arent looking good.

I agree with another poster on here that QB controversies seldom, if ever, have anything to do with how the two get along with each other. It has to do with the fans and coaches. Just because Meyer says Leak is the starter does not mean it is set in concrete no more than Fulmer saying Ainge is the starter. If either of them do not get it done and the coaches think the backup could do a better job.... he will be in there. Yes, there is a QB controversy in Florida and it is certainly possible that the starting QB in Meyer's system should be Tebow. And yes, if any starting QB is not spectacular everyone will be looking at the backup... just human nature and if the starter is not effective.... the coaches will also look to the backup. The season must get underway before things shake out.
