No QB In Upcoming Class - All Our Eggs Are In The Current QB's Baskets?

Hope Ferguson is all that and a bag of chips. Nah, pray Ferguson is all that and a bag of chips..

Dobbs was handpicked by the staff. The other three had pretty good offer lists and HS careers.

One guy struggles... OK, maybe he lacks talent. Two guys struggle... OK... maybe a fluke. Three guys struggle... At some point you have to consider the coaching and development they've been getting. Somewhere along the line you have to question whether the schemes and playcalling are at issue.

No need to argue, guys, just am concerned with the QB's we currently have. From what I saw I would be pushing the panic button with both hands.

Haven't seen Ferguson but maybe some of you have at practice. Glad to see we are doing extremely well with recruiting but I don't see why any high caliber wide receiver would want to go to a school without a proven quality QB.

Butch would have to answer that question for you. I would think, however, that his initial strategy is to "carpet bomb" the field of available candidates and, if he can't get a top-tier dual-threat quarterback, adjust as need dictates later to the skill sets of pro-style quarterbacks who are seriously interested in Tennessee.

OK thanks VR

not completely sure how much QB evaluation we VN members could really do this year. The O line let even the worst teams we played live in our backfield, hence two injured QB's. The players are all working under new coaches.....again. New schemes, etc. I know if Peyton Manning was a true freshman behind this o line, he would have feared for his life every time the ball was snapped. He would not have been a UT Legend. He would have likely been injured his whole career.

What is the common denominator in all three of those QBs? The OL maybe? Coaching and play calling maybe as well? We won't know until next year when we have no real experience on O line, but experienced receivers and QBs who have been in this system. This O line was used to Bray who had a quick release meaning they didn't have to block for a long time and his receivers were experienced, got open and caught the ball. Worley and his receivers struggled initially until the Georgia game and people were putting pressure in his face at the start because he was holding onto the ball too long not sure where to throw it, but then started to get it together, know where the ball was going and got rid of it. Worley goes down. In comes Dobbs who's only been getting minimal reps and the receivers are open, but Dobbs doesn't see them cause he's going through his progressions like he's been taught, much like Worley at the beginning of the year. Dobbs had only just got to campus in August and he never looked to me to be physically ready to start or take the punishment he's taken.

Excuse crew rolling strong with fade jumping in too.. big time. I guess it's gonna be a long summer for you guys.

So many excuses, so few wins. Funny that I and other "negavols" talk about excuses and lack of results on the field, but the crew makes a joke about being a nerdy shopper or a homosexual in a bathroom stall.

Its clear who the punks are. I'm not going anywhere.

I remember going to my only game in K Town in 1994 (I think) and watching 2 freshman quarterbacks for UT against a visiting Memphis State. neither of the quarterbacks Peyton Manning and I think the other was Brandon Stewart could hit the side of a barn that day. But the massive o-line took charge in the second half and ran over the Memphis Kittens. I say give these young guys a chance. See how Peyton got a lot better and if I am not mistaken Stewart went on to start for Texas A & M. But I am getting old and memory is going fast

Please go to Butch's office door tomorrow and tell him how you'd do it guy.....you are so full of back seat coaching knowledge he can take some notes from you.

Wylo is like a cancer on this site. He is so full of negativity it's beyond pathetic. His ego is bigger than Neyland Stadium.

You are correct; we defeated Memphis 24-13 in 1994. I raised this point in another thread prior to the Vanderbilt game, so let's compare our offensive productivity with Dobbs at the helm, accompanied by an inexperienced receiver corps, vs. the same period of Peyton's career. This year we scored 10 points against Alabama, the number one team in the country, 3 vs. Missouri, and 23 vs. Auburn, for a total of 36. Yes, I realize that we had a defensive score vs. Auburn.

Peyton first started against Washington State in 1994. We scored nine points that game, followed by 38 against what would prove to be a 4-7 Arkansas team, and 13 against an eventual 12-1 Alabama squad, for a total of 60 points. Peyton had a better and more experienced supporting cast, but, as great as he would eventually become, that offense didn't really begin to hum until the end of the season, when we posted 52 and 65 points against Kentucky and Vanderbilt, respectively, and 45 vs. Virginia Tech in the Gator Bowl.

The bottom line is that it's never an ideal situation to start a true freshman quarterback, so let's reserve judgment on Dobbs' potential, let alone his play, for a while. Furthermore, Peyton's first three starts were against teams with a combined 24-12 record. Dobbs has played against currently the 1st, 5th and 4th-ranked teams, whose combined record is 31-2. That could factor into why Dobbs has not thrown a touchdown pass thus far.

Ignore is for the weak, imo. You never know when you might learn one thing, even minor, and ignoring takes away that chance. Pride is a weakness. So is arrogance and stubbornness.

Wylo cannot teach anything besides negativity, doom and gloom. Ignore is not for the weak. It's great for making experiences here on VN actually palatable. I love ignoring people who come on here only to complain and bash the coaches and players.

Don't you find it annoying coming on here and seeing someone constantly posting negative crap and putting down the coaches and players? I know I do. And that's why the ignore button is great :)

No worries here, especially since this season has shown us we have MANY other issues to address in this class. We'll get a solid QB in the 2015 class that will be able to redshirt and develop for at least 2-3 years (hopefully).

The ignore feature is there for anyone to use if they choose. Personally, VN would be a very boring place for me if I weeded out everyone that had a different opinion than my own.

The crew doesn't agree. They don't mind saying repulsive things about someone, but heaven forbid someone say a 3 million dollar a year coach actually should do some coaching leading up to the Vanderbilt game.

I will never use ignore, because I don't need a filter on anyone. I say what I want, so they can do the same.
