Teams protect their thoroughbreds. Plow horses like Henry are a dime a dozen. You run them til they drop, then go get another one.

That sounds strangely like the treatment Jamal Lewis got in Baltimore.

Again, Travis Henry is incapable of carrying the jock of Jamal Lewis. If Jam doesn't get hurt in '98, nobody ever hears Henry's name at UT.

They rode him until he wasn't productive then dumped him to Cleveland. That sounds pretty similar to the treatment Henry received in Buffalo.
When did Henry suffer any serious injuries? Jamal fell off because of health issues. Henry simply wasn't as good as Willis McGahee. Also, remind me exactly how many Super Bowl rings and 2,000 yard seasons Gary Coleman, Jr. has.

Henry broke his leg. It was quite serious. Jamal has 1 of each of the things you named. Henry has zero. Which one is in a better position to get one now? It's Henry and it isn't even close.

Not really. They're both coming to the end of NFL shelf lives. Jam will leave with a ring and one of the top 5 seasons ever. Henry will be remembered by nobody.

I'll bet most backs will trade one fractured leg for two shredded knees.

I still fail to see how Jamal wasn't given the plowhorse treatment you described earlier.

Jamal was an elite, power back. Webster is neither elite nor powerful. When Jam asked for big money the first time in Baltimore, the Ravens paid up because they valued him. When Arnold Drummond asked for big money from Buffalo, the Bills executives rolled on the floor laughing hysterically and then showed him the door.

I'm not familiar with either of their contract negotiations. I imagine Henry's broken leg and the subsequent lack of productivity didn't help his case. Ironically, both Henry and Lewis were replaced by the same guy.

Who is better than any version of Travis Henry, but not better than vintage Jamal Lewis.

Yet, McGahee and Henry each spent the first four years of their careers in Buffalo. Henry gained more yards, scored more TDs, and caught more passes during his stint.

How many games did Willis play in his rookie season?

Disregard Henry's final season in Buffalo, in which he broke his leg, and McGahee's rookie season, when he was still recovering from the knee injury... and Henry still has the edge.

Yeah, that's why Buffalo kept McGahee. Henry was better.

Henry didn't produce the season after breaking his leg. McGahee did. McGahee already had a big contract. Henry was probably asking for an even bigger one. It seems like a logical move.
