No way Urban Meyer comes back as coach of Gators

The mods should change the title of this thread to "I REALLY hope Urban Meyer never comes back as coach of the Gators".

You know...for the sake of accuracy and whatnot...

They've already dropped 6 spots (2 recruits?) on Rivals recruiting ratings after the flip-flop. Seriously laughing at the gator homers that said this wouldn't lead to a dropoff.

Those Gator recruits looked terrible today in the Under Armour game...you may be on to something..

Yep, clearly the departure of Charlie Strong is going to destroy any positive recruiting momentum for defensive players.

We could really use a dominant interior d-lineman and some studs in the secondary. :neener2:

UT is going to take over the East.

I can wait another 2 years before something like this that actually has a chance of happening, actually happens.

And based on today's UA All-Star game, losing Charlie didn't hurt us nearly as much as some of you hoped it would.

Yes, because his coaching abilities have nothing to do with the product on the field. Stellar post.

Right, because Charlie's recruiting abilities apparently have nothing to do with the talent we bring in. The rats were supposed to jump off the sinking ship and whatnot.

Stellar response.

Long way to NSD, chuckles... Also, remind me what happened to Elam? Or what about Brown opening up his recruitment?

The same thing that happened to a couple of your verbals. They decommitted, it happens everywhere.

Elam has been flip-flopping all season. Who knows where he'll end up by NSD.

You Gators are whistling past the graveyard. Meyer's "leave of absence" is better for UT and UGA than if he'd just quit. If he'd quit, you'd have Bob Stoops coming in, full speed ahead. Instead, you have a lame duck who is halfassedly committed to coaching. I'd be livid at him if I were a UF fan.

There are no guarantees Stoops leaves Oklahoma for Gainesville if Meyer quits. There are no guarantees Meyer comes back to coach, in spite of what eh says publicly about his gut feeling.

I'll gauge the situation by what happens on National Signing Day, and by who is running the show in the fall. Until we get past those two checkpoints any discussion here on the situation is nothing more than speculation.

I'm optimistic and hopeful that Meyer comes back, and you guys are hopeful that this whole soap opera will result in either Meyer staying "retired" and/or UF losing key recruits. Everyone is optimistic and hopeful, and everyone is spinning the situation to that hope.

100 percent correct IMO. I can't see him outworking Saban or Kiffin anymore.

Man, you really love putting Kiffin in the same league as Meyer and Saban.

If the VN football board is a decent gauge of the Vol fanbase, I'd say Kiffin lost a bunch of disciples following the VT game.

Did anyone notice in the post game interview when Tebow was talking the cameras panned over to the Florida team and the caught #61 from Florida saying "I cant stand that guy, he makesme sick." You couldnt actually hear it but that is what he said for sure. I wonder if he was talking about TT or CUM?

Or, better yet, Mike Shanahan.

There are a couple of things to infer from reports of the Gators hiring Stanford assistant D.J. Durkin as linebackers/special teams coach

1. Urban Meyer, who is battling health issues, is finally starting to delegate. Special teams is Meyer’s baby, but it also takes a great deal of time and energy to do. Meyer can teach a young the ropes while not having to handle the daily grind of that unit.

2. Maybe I’m reading too far into this, but the hire seems to speak to the solidity of Meyer’s return to coaching in 2010. Why would a young coach from Stanford move cross country to work for the Gators staff if it was going to be blown up? Nothing against interim coach Steve Addazio — he’ll be a good head coach somewhere else one day — but the Gators would have a big head-coaching name in place if they didn’t think Meyer would return. The fact that he’s hiring outside guys is a positive trend for Gators fans wanting to keep Meyer.
