Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

The 2000 team had 7 players go on to play the WNBA. Back then most players in WCBB were team players. More about we and less about me. The climate has changed now for a lot of reasons.

I don't think it will devolve into the "one and done" that plagues MCBB but I wonder about the long term effect that player transfers will have on fan loyalty.

There was more WNBA teams back then too, so more WNBA teams= more WNBA players.

Jaden Owens is transferring from UCLA. She played about 10 minutes a game last season behind Japreece Dean. I’m betting she’s headed back to home to Texas, but I think she’s worth a look. She was a good recruit out of Plano, TX. Fast, a good defender and she had 33 assists to 19 turnovers last season. Didn’t light the world on fire, but she was playing behind several upperclassman guards at UCLA.

Unless the rule changes she’ll likely have to sit, but she would be a great addition. She’s a good size at 5’8” as well. Not too small, not too big.

So the potpourri thread got tossed into a politics forum about covid?
That is weird. Did someone on here complain to moderator? There wasn’t anything political on there at all.

I’m guessing it got moved because it didn’t have anything in it relating to basketball. Or Lady Vol sports in general.

It really had a lot to do with being bored out of one’s mind because there is no basketball or softball or golf but I see your point. No harm no foul on the thread however. Don’t see who it was hurting being on here.

I agree it wasn’t hurting anyone. I doubt anyone reported it. The moderators watch pretty closely and move stuff around quickly if it belongs elsewhere on the site per their guidelines.

I think it was merged in there by mistake, apparently. And it wasn’t me this time, although I’ve accidentally merged some threads in weird places before. Lol. I just fixed it.

We usually try to limit off topic threads, but due to the circumstances we’re trying to give some latitude.

Thanks, Freak. Just noticed it was back. Good call, IMO.

I'd wager that several of us had wished there was a miscellaneous thread for LV fans but hesitated for the reason you mentioned. But these are different times, indeed.

Once in an orange moon, I'll post in the bb or fb forums, but the LV fans are especially my homies. We all pull for all Vol teams, of course.

It's a good way to get to know other posters and find other common interests (and be introduced to new things: books, music, movies, foods, hobbies, travel & vacation spots, health tips, fads, etc.).

Might even have a positive effect on any simmering animosities.

Anyway, thanks.

I won’t be upset if she chooses UConn though, especially since the media is recruiting her there as well... I happen to think Saniya Rivers is very good as well and will be matchup nightmare in college! Hoping SC can land either her or Fudd.

Slam using their platform and Paige to recruit Azzi to UConn. It’s very cringe because it seems like she wants to enjoy the full process and take her time while Bueckers, the media, and everyone around her is trying to push her to UConn. This isn’t the only video either. I’ve seen multiple like this....

They've only gotten 10, and have very little height on their team. Collins and Reese are their only 6'3+ players.

BIbby was an excellent get for them. She can start at the 4 right away, with Reese and Collins in the frontcourt. Unfortunately for Brenda, she's got no post depth behind them. I suspect she's not done shopping in the transfer portal...

Damn, if UK gets some bigs with immediate eligibility, they will be very dangerous!

I'm surprised about Jaz. She'll be playing behind Patterson, Howard and probably Hunt in the backcourt...unless she's gonna bust out a bag of tricks she never showed at Tennessee. It seems like a step down to play a backup role on a team that is good, but not great.
