Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Creme already has South Dakota in as a #10 seed. If they win the Summit League tourney I think it's possible both they and SD State make the field. But if another Summit League team wins, or there are more upsets that mandate shoehorning another team in then I think SD State will be in and South Dakota will be left out.

Louisville getting out coached right now. Wes Moore is a master at getting the ball to who he wants, where he wants to. If they get in their halfcourt he will get Cunane a good touch. Lots of good screening action on the wings to shift the defense and open up the entry. Nice to be able to go to the post in pinch time. A lot easier to hit shots from 3’ than it is from 23’.

Beautiful play from NC State to get Cunane to the line here. Great upscreen to open things up in the post. Wes is drawing them up right now in real time, fun to watch!

Cunane is listed as 6'5" didn't know she was that tall. She is really active around the basket with some nice moves. I'm hoping that will be Key next season able to put it on the floor and score.

She’s a tough check

If Key can get more mobile like that she would require a double on almost every possession. I think that should be an off-season goal for Tamari. At her size offensively she should DEMAND a double team and be able to play over/through it. Opens things up so much when you have to double the post, as we saw for SC.

last night Key did something i’ve never seen her do well two 1. she spun and drove to the basket and 2. she drove and did an underhand up and under to protect the basketball against boston (now it didn’t go in) but it showed her development and what she can do

This is the problem when you double the post also Louisville was hammered on the boards by State.

Really seemed like it! Thought the same thing, only a 4 rebound differential at the end. NC State controlled the boards in crunch time though.

Watching Tennessee and Florida men's game one time it was 31 to 17 Florida lead now Tennessee 57 to 46 3 minutes left. Keep fighting never know how a game can change.

And Cunane was ranked #55 by Hoopgurlz coming out of HS — similar to say, Striplin, and at least on paper their games seem similar to me.

I was comparing her to Striplin's game think they play a lot alike. I think Striplin has more shooting range than she does and shoots the free throws over 85 percent.

Yes but when you need to double down a lot in the long run it will hurt you. I like what Old Miss coach Yo do no double in the post straight up Austin you are on your own. TN needs to do the same thing Key is not the strongest post play by far. But with her shot blocking ability height and wingspan she will make it very difficult for any post player.

Georgia is allowed so much contact on the perimeter. Connally in particular. She just bounces off of one player and onto another. She makes it look like she’s getting pushed around, but she’s creating the contact and it’s annoying. Throws the screener and the ball handler off balance. Should be called a foul. She’s draped all over the ball handler and nothing?
