No. I don't think a ref is ever gonna make that call unless it is so obvious. DJ drove in looking for contact, but I can't imagine a ref would make that call. It's just like Ashley Joens vs. TAMU.
How much more obvious does it need to be? They need to pull out batons and whack her across the knees?
A ref unwilling to make the top call at the end of the game doesn't need to be officiating. Both players leaned into Carrington and got her across the arms (and Edwards with the body).
Two players fighting for a rebound? Questionable charge? Maybe an extra step? Lots of judgment calls on split-second plays can be no-calls.
A shooter getting clobbered isn't one of those calls. And she would have still had to make both FT to avoid overtime, and Conn would have still had one last long shot to win.
This just gave the win to Conn. Inexcusable.
They needed to let NaLyssa have the game on her shoulder. I have no idea why DJ was trying to hero ball.
I'm never a fan of these last desperation plays where you initiate contact and hope the refs bail you out. DJ jumped into them, which is why Edwards arm is in her face. What is missing in this picture is that Edwards and ONO also brought their arms down and that's where the foul occurred. If they both just stood there with their arms up, a no-call is the right way to go. But no, I'm not a fan of this playcall. It should have gone to Smith or Queen. The ball went from Sarah to DJ and she tried to hero ball, and shouldn't expect to get rewarded for that.
