Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Paige played all 40 minutes and didn't have 1 assist or 1 found called on her. Obviously she one of the best players, but that's not good playing a full game with so few rebounds and zero assists. UCONN will blow out Indiana or Arizona. And so for Geno hasn't lost a title game. Come on Tara and Stanford!!

No. I don't think a ref is ever gonna make that call unless it is so obvious. DJ drove in looking for contact, but I can't imagine a ref would make that call. It's just like Ashley Joens vs. TAMU.

How much more obvious does it need to be? They need to pull out batons and whack her across the knees?

A ref unwilling to make the top call at the end of the game doesn't need to be officiating. Both players leaned into Carrington and got her across the arms (and Edwards with the body).

Two players fighting for a rebound? Questionable charge? Maybe an extra step? Lots of judgment calls on split-second plays can be no-calls.

A shooter getting clobbered isn't one of those calls. And she would have still had to make both FT to avoid overtime, and Conn would have still had one last long shot to win.

This just gave the win to Conn. Inexcusable.

Seen it before definitely will see it again really can't depend on the foul when your playing them have to get a shot up.

They needed to let NaLyssa have the game on her shoulder. I have no idea why DJ was trying to hero ball.

Absolutely. Even if she misses Baylor has a good chance at the rebound. It's never a good idea to count on the referees to decide the game in your favor. In the last ten seconds they tend to eat their whistles.

Overall, though, I thought Mulkey out-coached Auriemma. If Didi hadn't gone down Baylor takes this one.

The hamstring injury looks pretty severe though, and even if Baylor had won I doubt she's anywhere near 100% in the semis.

I'm never a fan of these last desperation plays where you initiate contact and hope the refs bail you out. DJ jumped into them, which is why Edwards arm is in her face. What is missing in this picture is that Edwards and ONO also brought their arms down and that's where the foul occurred. If they both just stood there with their arms up, a no-call is the right way to go. But no, I'm not a fan of this playcall. It should have gone to Smith or Queen. The ball went from Sarah to DJ and she tried to hero ball, and shouldn't expect to get rewarded for that.

Agreed. It's just a roll of the dice when that's your plan. Win or lose, you can't really complain when you put it in the officials' hands.

Baylor had so many chances to win the game. The last play will be the most scrutinized but Baylor had so many chances and just couldn't find the points. That last play may very well have been a foul, but if Baylor had scored on one of those numerous empty possessions, they wouldn't have needed that last foul call. A real shame. Would have been a far more pleasant Final Four if, well, you know.

looked to me like Baylor was the benefit of poor reffing much of the game
