Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

They needed to let NaLyssa have the game on her shoulder. I have no idea why DJ was trying to hero ball.

Absolutely. Even if she misses Baylor has a good chance at the rebound. It's never a good idea to count on the referees to decide the game in your favor. In the last ten seconds they tend to eat their whistles.

Overall, though, I thought Mulkey out-coached Auriemma. If Didi hadn't gone down Baylor takes this one.

The hamstring injury looks pretty severe though, and even if Baylor had won I doubt she's anywhere near 100% in the semis.

And the team with Paige Bueckers was down by 10 when the most important player on Baylor left the game with an injury.

Smith didn't get hurt.

Maybe Baylor holds on if Richards doesn't get hurt, maybe they don't. We'll never know. Injuries suck, but it's part of the game...

I didn't say "best", I said "most important".

Yes, injuries suck and it's part of the game. If Bueckers was the one who got hurt and Baylor pulled away, the narrative would be the same. Just because it's part of the game doesn't mean that the beneficiary didn't get a lucky break.

it is looking like the Trees and UConn for the NC. Wake me when it’s over

If Bueckers was the one that was hurt, ESPN wouldn’t even be showing the Arizona/Indiana game. They would be covering that like Breaking News.

Baylor played better when Edwards went to the bench for UConn. So both teams benefitted from an opponent's starter sitting out. Also, There was a play where C. Williams of UConn led a fast break in the fourth quarter, gave a fake, and the Baylor player grabbed her hand. Williams pulled her hand away and laid the ball up. There was an official standing right there and no foul was called. Baylor also got the benefit of bad officiating.

I really think in Geno’s post game interview he should have said Richard’s going out was a lucky break!

DiDi clearly is the extension of Coach Mulkey and that became super apparent when she went out. Tough break for Baylor.

It would take a couple of massive upsets tomorrow night, but the possibility exists for three teams with male coaches to be in the Final Four, and that would make some folks unhappy.

Assuming that UConn beats the Indiana/Arizona winner, Geno has quite a bit of experience with all four of the teams UConn might face.

Let me know when the men’s final four has three women head coaches. Will you be happy then?

Your point?

I was talking about how Texas is playing now, not over the full season.

Maryland had a high powered offense and was held down by Texas, South Carolina is not as high a powered offense. That was my point.

I do expect South Carolina to win this game.

Well, to respond to your premise point to point, Texas has a not-so-much high powered offense, while South Carolina's defense has been better than Texas' against better competition all season.

Texas has allowed an average of 61.7 ppg to its NCAAT opponents thus far, while USC has allowed an average of 53.3 ppg. So one could use your logic and ask "If South Carolina is holding its opponents to 53.3 ppg, can Texas break 50?"....

They got the one that counted the most at the end though am I right?
They all count. Under two minutes with a 3 point lead and Bueckers was clearly fouled on a jump shot. And I question that dribble violation call on Westbrook as well. She got her hand on top of the ball even with the high dribble. There were countless no calls against Baylor in the first half. They had FOUR starters with ZERO fouls in the first half. Tennessee fans should be able to appreciate that.

And I would agree with that. But I was only talking about South Carolina's offense vs Texas newfound defensive effort.
