Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

UT at home beat UT Martin by 40, 18th ranked Louisville won at UT Martin won by 22. Thoughts?

I’m not one who thinks you can tell much by margin of victory over like opponents especially when it’s a lower tier opponent. However, I don’t think Louisville is that good this year though, and I don’t think they are better than UT.

Cory, your LV’s will make some waves this season when they play the ”big dogs”, mark it. Might be a season or two away from championship contender, might….

SoCal is going to be a force this season, no way around it.
JuJu played 28 minutes in this game, but she took twice as many shots as the next player {KiKi). Gottlieb has to be careful that USC doesn't turn into an Iowa team that depended on CC to carry them every game during the season. They have enough talent to spread it around, but when teams concentrate on JuJu they have to be able to go elsewhere. When they play the really good teams we will find out if the other players can step up to make them a legitimate NC contender. With JuJu we know, without her, we really don't as yet. Geno has the same question with UConn, as he has no faith in his team as yet when Paige is not on the floor. That is something he has been working on through practice and the first two games.

Oklahoma is playing Western Carolina a future opponent right now. Watching the game Oklahoma looks a lot slower than our team.

Yea, they’re making me a little nervous with their transition offense, hot shooting and Beers’ ability to finish at the rim with contact.

They have struggled defending the 3, so hopefully we can take advantage when we host them Jan 5.

Well Western Carolina is number 280 so that makes some difference in execution.

Oklahoma has a good team mainly their inside game because of the big bruiser. It will be tough for us to stop her hopefully we can run her ragged and slow her down that way. Most SEC games are going to be won by a few possessions by one team or the other. Looks like SC, LSU and Texas are the top three and were in the next tier with Oklahoma, Bama, Ole Miss, Miss St, Kentucky, and possibly Vandy. Florida and Auburn looking good early also. The ultimate bottom of the league Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas A&M.

Tennessee quality win over Middle Tennessee State moved them up to the top tier of the SEC.

The Lady Vols have the one of the mosf impressive wins in the SEC so far this season along with South Carolina win over NC State.

South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, LSU, and Ole Miss in that order.

They won’t be anything like Iowa, Juju wants to win and doesn’t care about chasing stats to get awards over Championships.

Our post defense is going to have to get a lot better before we see the SEC. I fear had that have been Beers playing for Middle instead of their 6-7 post, Beers would have dropped 40 on us. Middle exposed our post defense in the second half. Not sure what the answer is, but it sure would be nice if Jill would toughen up and be able to defend the post a bit better.

If that was remotely the case, she would stop shooting so much against nonsense teams and get her teammates much more involve. She's taken 50 shots in three games double that of any of her teammates and it's not like she's shooting Caitlin Clark numbers to back up those attempts. 13.2% from the three and 42% for overall fgs. Aren't eye popping shooting stats.

Indiana drops another one. This time to Butler 56-46.

Striplin played 16 mins, had 4 pts and 3 rebs. She had the most mins off the bench, but Moren stayed mostly w her starters. 4 starters played 35+ mins and the other starter 25+ mins. Tough start for Strip and for IU.

They just don’t have the players to get it done suddenly. Couldn’t recruit and they are short handed everywhere. Their guard play in particular is trash this season.

As usual, there’s always this exaggeration and overvalue of any decent/solid opponent.

One player won’t change the fact that coming into this game the returnees from Oklahoma took a loss against Tennessee last season.

As a team, Tennessee has improved from last season and will become even better as the season progresses.

Secondly, Oklahoma scored 76 points against Southern.

This center can’t make MTSU any better than this Oklahoma team.

This player ain’t scoring 40 points on anybody lol.

This is equally as bad as saying LSU is a better team than last season.

Acting like this Oklahoma team presents such a mismatch is simply a fantasy.
