Non-Lady Vol Game discussion

Let's get past shaping players before we try "reshaping" players

Let’s not overlook this girl carried her team when their senior pg went down. Some kids just have the IT factor. Her stats were similar to Hayes. I’m not saying don’t shape the ones we have but if we miss out on some other recruits why would we not keep this door open? Again, we don’t know what she did but just like Hayes everyone deserves a second chance to show they have matured.

Speaking of shaping one of your favorite players , Meme, has shaped up quite nicely with this staff. If she takes another step forward both as a leader and with a little more production I think that will help tremendously.

Someone pushed the right buttons last year for Meme and she blossomed. This year, for summer, she is working on her mid-range game and basket attacks,,,so her game will continue to advance... Leadership is the tough part for her. She is fearless on the court and a consistent in that she never plays the game at half-effort.,,so her leadership by example is good.. It is the verbal and demonstrative leadership qualities she will have to be schooled on as far as leadership.

This is key. Last year we had two floor leaders who were consistently inconsistent.....Both held good averages in the categories, but disappeared in games and sometimes for spans of games...Mercedes was a dub-dub machine, but her in-game production would be 8 pts and 6 rebs in Q1, , , nothing for Q2 and the start of Q3,,, and then late in Q3 or Q4, where she would again have dominant numbers. Whereas Mercedes disappeared in-game, Jaime would disappear for full games and then come back in beast-mode two games later......This is why I feel stronger at leadership this year. Although Meme and Cheridine don't have the gaudy numbers, they don't disappear! When their numbers are down, there in-game defense, effort and passion are still visible and inspiring.

who would have thunk, MR has as many WNBA rings as CP? :(

Russell: 8 Games: 4 minutes in one game, one rebound.

We're loaded again for the run this year G, maybe even better than last year.

There is a reason I am more optimistic about this year's campaign,,,The rookies of last year actually advanced in "gamesmanship". . . At the end of the season Rennia spoke of getting back in the gym immediately. As good as she played, she still saw flaws in her own game. Same with others. This means that CHW is now getting self-governing players. If their work-ethic is as solid as their aspirations, they will become elite because "they want to be".... Some athletes become great because "someone else expects them to be and can get it out of them"... Others because they want to be great and know they have to work for it, themselves.

Work ethic isn't how you work when you are being watched, its how you work when you're alone.
I can read players and we have a lot of self motivated players in this group.

Would not surprise me if UCONN lands 2 of the top 3 remaining prospects for 2019. Boston and Horton?

Nyara Sabally The 6-foot-4 forward was the most valuable player of the FIBA Under-18 Div. B European Championships after averaging 17.3 points and 12.8 rebounds.

will sit out this season to recover from a serious knee injury suffered while playing for the German national team

Well of course, we all do the same, but I also wish that she never has a win against UT in her career. Is that so bad?

Any idea who is considered the favorite for top recruits Boston, Jones and Amihere? I believe uconn, South Carolina and Notre Dame are in the mix. Jones could end up close to home at Stanford. I wonder how many more years Tara will coach.

Boston and Jones will visit UConn on 11/2. Both are visiting together???

2020 - Cameron Brink 6'4" forward out of Oregon committed to Stanford this weekend. She is currently ranked #2 in the class. Tara is getting some good recruits.
