Non-Lady Vol news 2018-19

MSST won 104-54, and they did it with McCowan sitting on the bench for the last 15 min of the game. They scored 69 pts in the 2nd half, and actually played better with Teaira and Espinoza Hunter on the bench. Howard had a monster game, They shot 49% from the floor, doubled up on rebounding 64-32, and had five players in double digits. The freshman Jessika Carter with 10 pts 8 rbds And 4 blocks. She's gonna be a good one.

They look every bit as balanced as they did last year, only now they have more size, rebounding and depth. They are gonna be very tough to beat.

Not impressed with SC. Despite all of their guard depth, they can't shoot. That 3rd quarter was one of the worst displays of basketball at a supposedly high level I've ever seen. They're lucky to win, and would have lost to a more competent team.

Yes, Mississippi State must have gotten a talking to at the half. They came out with a fire under their butt. Were only up by 10 at the half but blew them away in the third to close it out.

K excuses i wasn't hype i was speaking in general but anyway back to LV's. Rae Burrell is going to be a niiiice for Tennessee right?
Excuses!? What?! But you aren't hype? J/K Lol alright dude! ;) Your board your rules, back to TN. I do believe she will. Actually all of the freshman will contribute. I am more interested in the sophomores Davis and Westbrook right now because they're the ones I'm expecting to lead Tennessee back to the top of the SEC. The good thing about being so young though is that they should all be hungry to prove they deserve their playing time because with so much talent you don't want to lose the trust of the coaching staff for fear of being replaced. In general I personally try not to watch too many November games because everyone and I mean everyone looks horrid in November. I am also interested to see how the new game plan of pressing from start to finish for the full year works out.

Our length gonna cos problems for opposing team this year, I don't think you will see all the trapping going forward against solid teams, but I do see us picking up guards or opposing players full court, almost like the Rutgers 55 defense, full court mane. We are not guarding empty spaces, we are guarding players. I like that.

Let's see how they respond on Sunday! Go Lady Vols. Next year tho!

And I love Rae's attitude. She sounds like a Lady Vol.

I was telling a fellow posters. Can we call the players that play for the Lady vols who don't go to Final 4s or Elite 8 during their career "Volettes" instead of Lady Vols? lol

Raise that bar, it seems like that name is given without the hard work, team work, attitude, intensity, winning, excellence and Championships (SEC & NT).

It seems like this generations needs to earn that name "Lady Vols."
:cool::p:eek::)

Should we as well call the coaches coachettes... until they win the Final Four

Rickea Jackson to MSST. They will be a very talented, tough and deep team next year...even with losing four starters again.

They had multiple kids transfer out... is this why to make room for 5 incoming freshman? She can be a star there and I hope she is happy 😃

Next year’s freshman class has great star potential and I am happy with our class because it leaves us room for 3-4 talented young ladies who The LV can be really picky with. If we get Natasha Mack
then great! A good year and postseason run could open some eyes for the class of 2020 and 2021.

Great news! Since she wasn’t interested in being a Lady Vol, it’s better for us that she’s at MSST than USC. Dawn would have a nightmare squad with Jackson. Keeps the SEC competitive.

You sound like a bitter SC fan 😂. IIRC, he had three players leave. One to CC for grades (incoming freshman who was his highest rated '18 recruit), one to Div II school, and don't know where the 3rd one went or why. Probably the girls saw the writing on the wall once MSST started gaining the attention of the 5-star recruits.

First off are SC fans bitter? They seem to get and benefit from a lot of transfers so that statement doesn’t seem to make sense. Dawn has for the most part been able to keep players that she recruited (and even brought one back that was thinking of leaving).

Regardless of whether they saw the writing on the wall he couldn’t have brought in a class of five without some of them leaving. So we ALL KNOW conversations are had that “hey you may want to look somewhere else” so to think they don’t is sorta playing oblivious. People get on Jeff Walz all the time for the same thing so I was bringing up the fact that he couldn’t have signed the young ladies he had if some hadn’t left. That’s just a fact... so bitter not at all!

And if you’ve missed my previous posts Kara Lawson is a family memeber of mine so a bitter SC fam I am not sir or ma’am 😁

I am hoping Haley Jones stays on the west coast. Stanford has one slot available for next years class. Oregon has room, but not sure if she would pick them.

Per Raoul : Notte Dame is thinking they are through with recruitment! Might look for a JUCO

So no Jones or Boston????

I would be shocked if Boston did not sign with uconn. Does it mean Stanford had conceded on Jones since they already showcased their 2019 class on the Stanford website. Besides uconn that leaves Oregon and South Carolina.if she chose Oregon, she could slide right into the lineup as a freshman.

Looks like uconn may get both, just like last year.

Guessing Jones picks Stanford and Boston goes to UCONN. Someone on the UCONN board pointed out that Stanford's twitter page followed Haley's account and they only follow staff, players, committed recruits and alum. Plus staying close to home, the horrible fires in Cali right now and a Stanford education means she likely stays put IMO. At UCONN she also has 2 year playing in a similar role to ONO and Walker in the front court. Jones will make her mark wherever she goes, but she has a clearer path to stardom and success at Stanford IMO.

UCONN just doesn't strike out recruiting wise even if it appears they might late in the game. Two years ago they nabbed Walker last minute, last year they got ONO and Williams both in the final hour. The last time they arguably struck out was in 2013, but they had landed a massive class the year prior. This year they just have Griffin and are in need of front court depth. Boston gets playing time from the get go at UCONN and stays close to home. That's my guess at any rate even though I'd love it if she chooses elsewhere.

SC fans seem bitter at MSST for surpassing them in the national spotlight. Even when SC won the NC, everyone was still talking about Morgan's shot to beat UConn. Last year, SC had the best player in the country, but was invisible while MSST won the SEC and returned to the NC game. They are clearly threatened by the fact that MSST is not going away with their recruiting and transfer good fortunes.

I don't think coaches have to spell it out for players that they will be a part of the rotation or not. Alexa Middleton clearly got the message that she was recruited over and I don't think Holly had to tell her that in so many words. As for MSST, if Evil Vic was chasing players off, Daphne White and probably Allen wouldn't have been the ones to target...there are worse players on the team, and losing White (grades?) was actually a setback.

From the MsSt boards it sure seems like she was chased off. Also remember that Maori Davenport was in the running til late! Don’t look at who they have now look at who they were chasing when this happened.

Also, I am confused on how it could be her grades already? She was only there for summer classes. So if it truly was a grade issue it could have been worked on and rectified if they really wanted her to stay. Maybe she wasn’t a good fit or maybe they put their eggs and the wrong basket and the eggs cracked!

Vic hasn't said anything about White leaving. I'm assuming it's grades because she went to CC. Don't know what MSST fans are saying since I didn't even know they had a board. But it makes no sense to chase White out when she had a million times more potential than Zion Campbell. No offense Zion, but I'd be telling you to get to packing if I was Vic and wanted someone to run off.

The third player who left transferred during off-season to a Div 2 school. Don't know where Allen ended up, but I thought I saw she quit in the beginning of the academic year before Martinez committed. So could be Vic already knew the girls were possibly questioning their role on the team and he didn't lie to them, or he knew before they announced that they were planning on leaving and didn't try to change their mind.

You go to JC to be able to play that year and not sit out doesn’t automatically mean grades. How do you know Zion Campbell wasn’t told that and she was like screw you I’m stayin til I graduate ? Also isn’t he trying to get promise Taylor immidately eligible ? So maybe Daphne saw the writing on the wall with that and him trying to recruit Maori but it sure seems like he made room for more recruits :) and yes they do have a board I just googled the young lady’s name and Mississippi state transfer and it will pop up :)

Schaeffer knows how to get players when he can't recruit them. Helping them tremendously this season are Hunter Espinoza and Howard. They made this team go from good to great. They take the pressure off McCowan as both can score and rebound. Out goes Howard replaced with Jackson. Out goes McCowan look for him to get a juco if he needs to or a grad transfer. They are gonna be good as long as he is there have to keep your talent up and really play well to beat him.
Worries me that we didn't try to get Mack signed in this early period. Schaeffer or Dawn just lurking in the bushes to grab her right from under Holly's nose. A few people may think we don't need her but you can't beat experience over a freshman and she is dominating in juco. She would be the absolute perfect replacement for losing C. Green is a terrific rebounder with an outside shooting touch.

While they can come in late and probably make strong pitches to her she stated she had a final 10. These were the schools she felt most comfortable with moving forward in her recruitment. Now with her averaging crazy numbers if they continue I can see bigger schools coming knocking down the door. Right now TN, Mizzou, Kansas, Virginia Tech, and Ok St are the power five schools she has chosen in her top 10. Then she has schools like Sam Houston St, Troy, St. John’s, Santa Clara, and Witchita State that round out the top 10. I would watch out for schools like WVU who always sneak in and get the top JUCO players ( a big part of that was coach Reaves so her connections in the JUCO ranks are a plus). Also, while she originally signed with Univ or Houston I wonder if coach BG shad her eyes on her at WSU while she was there and they formed a bond ?
