Nonconference schedule analysis: SEC

But instead could possibly go down in UT history as the worst home schedule ever.

Lmao now that's an utter exaggeration. Compare it to the other SEC teams, you'd be surprised. You've been spoiled the last couple years and now want to whine when things are down for one year.

Here's a suggestion, don't buy season tickets this year. Spend that money on road games since in your opinion those are the only games worth watching apparently. I'm sure the team would love to have your support on the road where it's truly needed.

Hell, why don't you come join me in Atlantis, I hear they're gonna play some good teams while down there?

Just another thought...the NCAA committee put alot of weight on road wins and who you played on the road last year, could that have possibly played into the thought process here?

Fans are gonna show up if the team is winning and generating national buzz, doesn't matter who you play, this has been proven in the past.

Nobody is questioning the road games. They IMO are top notch. Not too difficult, but ones that will put us in the tourny if we win a few of them. Fact is, I have already bought my season ticket. Some just can't not buy them one year or you lose them for good. UT's done got my money. Funny thing is they put the deadline for securing them before the official schedule is released.

I'm not comparing our home schedule with any other team in the SEC. I'm comparing it to UT's past schedules. That's why I said in "UT History". Not SEC history. I would think the "home" only is probably one of the worst in UT history. Road record....nobody is complaining about. Average both home and away....nobody is complaining about.

Your advice of approx. 14,500 season ticket holders just not buy them this year and CCM would be updating his resume.

Exactly, but you know what, it's not gonna happen. Like I said, if the team is winning who we play at home isn't going to matter. If this team goes out and beats xavier and wins the B4A, the OOC home games will still be big draws, regardless of opponent.

I don't buy season tickets, did it 2 years and never again. I prefer to pick and choose the games I would prefer to see, and like most people things come up and I can't see every single game. It's a much better deal to go to 2/3 of the games, and sit where you want, than it is to buy season tickets.

Well, you will have that much more money to gamble away in the Bahamas this year, so it does work out for some. Won't need to pick and choose anything until Jan.

Ill still attend home games in November and December that I can make, as will many others.

As I've said, but you've ignored, when the team is winning and has a national buzz people will turn out...regardless of opponent. If this team starts the year out hot, and remains ranked, people will turn out for the home games that you find unimpressive.

You should be able to hold 1 finger up outside TBA and get a free ticket up until Jan. so you won't need to spend as much this year as any other year.

That's true for just about any game over the course of TBA history unless you were a moron. The fact it seats 20k plus, and VERY rarely is at capacity has led itself to many free/cheap tickets over the years for even good opponents.

You pointing this out isn't some indication as to the quality of teams that will come into TBA, so your post truly makes little sense in this discussion.

Like I said and you seemingly are purposely avoiding, you win and it won't matter who comes to TBA, seats will fill up. It seems to upset you to think that there may be 16k+ in attendance to watch us beat up little sister of the blind, but it's the truth.

Ill bet you beers after a game next year, that if this team is ranked top 25 the majority of the year, that attendance will be up from last year...even with what you say is the worst home schedule in tennessee basketball history.

I hope there's 24,000 for every game this year. I'm not purposely hoping for terrible turnouts. Who the hell does that. What I care about is that I paid for a half dozen season tickets so I can see VA, FL, Ark, and MIZZ. The rest of the 14 games will be blow outs. Yeah that's great every now and then, but I'd like to see some good basketball more than 4 times a year. At lease that is what I expect to pay for.

Then you're in the minority, because like I've said, if we're good people will come regardless of opponent.

I don't think he's arguing about how many people will come, he's worried about the quality of games and how he paid for a season ticket to watch crappy quality games; as you mentioned earlier it's just wiser to buy individual tickets instead of season tickets (unless it's that year where we have a top 5 schedule, then you can make money off your season tickets).

Over 80% of the ticket sales have already been sold in season tickets. That doesn't mean they come to the crap games, they have already bought the tickets before the schedule was released. The 14,500 season ticket holders don't all come out to watch the crap basketball games. You think 14,495 people were at the Presbyterian game last year? There was probably half that amount that actually attended. But attendance is tickets sold, not actual attendance. TN will always have a built in attendance with the faithful season ticket buyers. Hell, even the Buzz days of black curtains UT was still in the top 20 in attendance almost every year, but you would be lucky to see 5,000 people at the games. I've been a season ticket holder through the ONeal, Green, Buzz, Pearl, and CCM era and I promise, no matter how great UT is, the season ticket holders do not show up in full force to the crap games. Especially, the early OOC crap games. But you won't see that in the actual "attendance" numbers.

So yes, there are over 14K season ticket holders that will make up about 80% of the tickets sold for the year, do you think they are happy with the home schedule that they have purchased? I don't think I'm in the minority at all.

I'd say there's others who aren't thrilled, but like I said if this was a trend I would be a bit more understanding. Martin has had great home schedules the last 2 years, so 1 year it's a little weak, not a huge deal jmo.

He has told me before that attendance numbers will be down this year due to our schedule.

With all the complaining I was expecting us to be on the list. Maybe they know something we don't.

I think our schedule is relatively weak compared to the last few years, but it's nowhere near the level as any of these. No. Where. Near.

People are spoiled. We've had great schedules the last few years, and when it's a little bit down (with good reason) for one year they wanna b!tch.

There so much selective hearing around here that it's rediculus. I've not really seen anyone b!tching about the schedule what so ever. The complaints I've seen are the weak home game schedule and KY not playing in TBA. The overall schedule is something I've heard no complaints on. Actually, with just about all our tough games on the road, our schedule is probably one of the tougher schedules in the conference.

How is the bolded part the basketball staff fault? If you're upset over the home schedule in part because of no Kentucky at home ten you should be voicing your displeasure with Slive and not the basketball staff.

At want point did I say KY was the staff's fault?

Not having Ky in TBA and a big OOC game to appease the fans as a replacement is the staff fault. Hey maybe they "almost" had this and "almost" had that. But in reality they didn't succeed in bringing a big ticket to TBA.

TN almost went to the dance the last 2 years. Dooley almost beat Georgia last year. Dooley almost beat S.C. last year. Dooley almost beat MIZZ last year.

So, I guess I can say I almost saw TN beat Mich St. this year at TBA.

Ok. Like I've said, you're in the minority. Season ticket sales won't suffer as a result and neither will attendance.
