I also wasn't on an athletic scholarship and didn't represent the University. Like it or not, they are held to a higher standard for that reason. Sometimes in life you have to give up certain things in order to get or enjoy other things. The price of a full ride includes the responsibility to abide by the rules and limits your extracurricular activities. They do drug test student athletes.

We can talk all we want about morals but the reality is that drugs are illegal at this time. How I feel about that really doesn't matter under the law.

"To whom much is given, much is expected". If you make the commitment to a program, scholarship or not, then you have committed to do what is best for the team.

Regardless of our personal views, weed is illegal. Guns with altered serial #'s are illegal. You know this before making your commitment.

If you don't care to abide by the rules set forth for your participation, then don't participate. I was offered several football scholarships coming out of HS. I decided that I didn't want to abide by the rules so I declined. One of the bigger mistakes in my life? Damn right it was. But I was free to do whatever I wanted without being bothered and without effecting my teammates.

Why do so many just say that "weed is ok?".... And "lots of people carry guns?".... Why can't it be a bad thing that they are smoking weed?... It's illegal... And I'm no expert, but it can't be good for you and improve your ability to think, study, work out, and be an overall better citizen... And guns.... Yes, I own guns... But, I am also very responsible with them, and have a permit.... I don't need to carry them around with me under the seat to impress... And btw... why do guys that are 6'7"-6'10", need a gun to pack in public anyway?.... I doubt they have many people trying to "mess" with them... Unless they are in places they shouldn't be in the first place.... IDK... bottom line is they should be punished.... And I don't mean suspended for a game... Or not allowed to practice with the team.... I like tyler and cam as players... But, I also don't want kids with these attitudes playing for our VOLS.... I'd rather lose than be considered Thug-U...

And, no.... I didn't smoke weed in college... And if these players want to pay their own way and go to college and smoke weed and pack guns, then more power to them.... But, they are getting a free ride at our university.... Because they play basketball... When they get caught doing things like this that embarrass UT, then they shouldn't be around the program... Period...

Except illegal in most states. You will be charged with a Class A misdemeanor with up to 1 year in jail and $2000 fine or depending on the intent and prior record you could be charged with a class C felony with up to 10 years in the slammer.:ermm:

ever smoke weed in college? I dont approve of the weed and especially the guns but lady's and gent's why not throw say 80% of students nation wide in jail and throw all of them out of school. These kids happen to play b-ball for tenn, but THEY are still college kids and just because they play b-ball dont make them immune to what the vast majority of col. kids are doing. I dont recall anyone saying these boys shot someone and stole the weed in a stolen car. This is a serious offense but my goodness, some of u guys act like these kids should be put on an alter and burned alive.

I never tried weed and have plenty of friends who never have as well. We all even went to college.

Last time I checked, weed was still illegal.

The argument that "everyone does it" and that it should be legalized is quite moot, because as of the time that this happened, it was still illegal.

My only problem with these players is that they forgot to stop and pick JP up!

Even if the majority of students smoke weed, the players (with good reason) are under a lot higher scrutiny. They represent the University in a greater capacity. Those on scholarship are also receiving a free education and have access to things most students don't, like tons of extra academic support. Hamilton said it right, it is a privilege to play at Tennessee. They benefit from that privilege and have a lot more to lose, so they should act like it.

The gun thing concerns me.The driving around concerns me. In reply to the weed smoking, in the real world, a lot of companies make you take drug screens prior to being hired so they might as well get use to not smoking sooner than later (I know they can be manipulated).

very few companies drug test regular employees after the application step. To say they need to quit because it's not allowed in the real world is wrong (unless they want to be CDL drivers or something)

Wrong! They are both illegal without a freaking doctor's prescription, or proper licensing.
Your opinion doesn't matter on which is right or wrong. I feel that 30mph is too slow of a speed limit for the road I live on, but that doesn't mean that it's any less illegal for me to drive what I see fit.
It also doesn't matter if any of us smoked weed in college. We aren't athletes getting a full-ride to go to school, and we weren't given a gigantic stage to audition for the profession of our dreams like these kids are getting.

still doesn't mean there is anything is "wrong" with it.

There is alot of stupid crap that is illegal. Everything that is illegal is not wrong.

Is that really the argument you are trying to make? That is completely subjective, and not relevant at all. Who cares what you or anyone else thinks is wrong (no offense)? The only judge and jury that matters when deciding what is "right and wrong" (in a matter like this) is...wait...a JUDGE AND A JURY!!!
