Not blaming the refs at all but

We "over help" when it is not necessary - leaving guys wide open. It has been a recurring issue with Barnes' teams from the get go. So hard to watch...

This is a big part of the defensive breakdown last night. Guys were overhelping any time UNC got into their offense, they'd sell the pass inside and then zip to a wide-open guy on the perimeter for an uncontested 3 that they had a tendency to drain.

It’s not just this past game.

See the Purdue game. And the Kansas game.

It gets really annoying when you start looking at the stats from football.

There needs to be an official inquiry from the athletic department or the university of Tennessee. I’m not even joking. What is going on is unacceptable and it’s not a coincidence. Needs to be stopped right now.
I do not think this is an issue that we want to take on by ourselves. I looked at the fouls and penalties data a while back and we are not the only team with significantly more penalties than others. We need to lead an investigation into officiating in the NCAA, not just SEC. I also believe we should greatly expand and update technology supporting officiating. I am a UT grad in Systems Engineering and this is a solvable problem.

I wonder if the refs perception, in general, is colored by the reputation we have for being a physical team. I don’t know if officials go into games thinking about a team’s style or not, but I imagine it’s difficult for them to be completely unbiased if they’ve constantly heard(or seen) about how physical we have been over the years.
Not sure if this is the case but I have a friend who is a ref, not In a P5 but FCS. He said a lot of places host them with a complimentary room with snacks and energy drinks water etc.. He said before the game, they usually have a casual talk about what to expect and how they need to call to keep the game from getting out of control. So if all do this an they have Bilas and all in their head that UT plays like , I forget what he said something like you go to a basketball game and you get Rugby or something, so IMO it is in ppl's head.

I’m not really bothered by the refs last night. I do question Knecht getting bloody on a tied up ball call instead of a foul. But then I don’t know if Knecht stepping on a defender’s foot and turning his ankle should be called tripping.

The absence of 3 second violations on the 7’4” and 7’2” centers playing for Purdue and Kansas do bother me though. I counted at least 5-seconds on Edey more than once.

What does bother me are inconsistent foul calls. Seems like we are again finding our most important players on the bench early with touch fouls and then they get battered later in games without fouls being called. Officiating is an ongoing issue. The conference/NCAA needs a more professional approach using more of their billions of $$ to fix.
It’s no wonder that Edey has been so dominant if Refs in other Purdue games call it like they did in Tenn game. He camped in lane practically their entire offensive sets. He never hardly made an attempt to move out of lane. I can’t blame him as ref never called 3 seconds. The 3 second rule is there for a reason - to mitigate advantage that a much taller, more dominant player can have over other players (ie Wilt Chamberlain or Shaq in their primes).

TN and Grant Williams drew these same conversations from our opponents. Part of the game unfortunately .

I am bothered more by the lack of a 3 second call and the obvious walks before shots by opponents that aren't called.

It does seem TN has a quick whistle more often than not.

Having watched this team for several games now their front line is small when going up against elite teams. I'd like to see Awaka & Aidoo in the lineup together at times. If you look at the last few games the Vols have gotten out rebounded.

Aidoo is an example of a player that could shoot 10 free throws a game if he just went up strong with the ball as soon as he catches it. He just plays wuss ball.

Lack of FT's is because there's no inside game.
Yes, exactly, but you will never convince these conspiracy theorist. The agressor gets fouled more and gets the benefit of the doubt more. If we keep taking 18 foot jumpers this is gonna be a long season.

While I wouldn’t mind the support of other programs who feel they’ve been hamstrung by suspect officiating—my main concern is ensuring officiating is objective and just and that are athletes compete to the best of their ability without worrying about biased officiating.

I can live with us getting called for penalties we committed. But when the other team can do whatever they want without any call, when obvious 50\50 balls that are off the other team—and the other team gets the ball, when their big men can do whatever they want while ours are called on ridiculous over the back fouls, we need to call the system to question.

It should have been done a long, long time ago.

How many times do we need to see this nonsense and do NOTHING about it????

We need to make an official inquiry. You’re talking major money now. And it’s affecting our athletics in every major sport.

Seriously, we need to do something about it. Now.
