Not everyone is cut out to be a Power 5 HC

Iowa is successful because they play old school football-and do it well. Hell, their playbook probably hasn't been updated since Clinton was in office. That being said, they consistent win 8 or so games. Is it better to suck for 5 years and have one great 11 win season or to be "good" pretty much every year? Iowa has decided.

Boise, they usually play one good team a year. They are basically the " tallest midget". They beat a bunch of smaller teams and occasionally pull out a shocker.

Nebraska's problem is that they are trying to do the same thing as everybody else. You just cannot get the talent to Lincoln these days to run a traditional offense. They need to go back to the B12 like yesterday. When they moved conferences, they lost their inroads into Texas where over half their recruits were coming from. Second thing is go back to the wishbone. Yes it's boring, but when done exceptionally you can take down anyone.
I’m pretty sure that’s just a regular person.

Schedules are a little different now. Back in the late 70s and early 80s, you played 6 conference games. There were fewer bowl games, but Majors still made bowls in 2 of his first 5 seasons (and 3 more in a row) before winning the SEC. They’d spring the occasional upset to keep the fan base optimistic. Frost just seems like he won’t get it turned around out there.

Johnny was 21-23-1 with only one season over 0.500 in his first 4 years. He went 5-6 in year 4 and that would have gotten him fired after 4 if he had coached in todays climate. But he was definitely better than Frost and once he got the right group of assistants and coordinators he did well with a share of 3 SEC titles in the next decade. Frost might need to go work for Saban for a couple of seasons to get a decent next job.

This has kind of been brought up before, but in looking up numbers over the last 20 years, there are some very good comparisons between Tennessee and Nebraska. And maybe it's my bias based on where I live, grew up, etc., but while the situations are statistically similar, I don't think they are close.

Getting a kid to go to Knoxville, TN, is a whole lot different than getting a kid to go to Lincoln, NE. Add to that, that Knoxville is a 4 hour drive or less away from Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, shares a border with Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, etc.

And the schedule, which people here hate......but as a kid, I can say to myself, we're going to play Alabama, Georgia, Florida. Has anyone looked at Nebraska's schedule? They play Oklahoma as part of a deal, but that's not the norm. The best games are against Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan.....schools that are hundreds of miles away. What's the game they circle on their schedule? The one that fans and players really want badly?

They have no recruiting base. They have no history with their opponents. They have nothing other than a fantastic fan base and a dust covered trophy case.

If they can’t get kids there in todays college football it may never be anything other than a scrimmage for most.

The problem is they can't offer anything that the schools who are at the level they want to be at can't also offer......without all of the other negatives.

And let's be honest, we all know they were cheating before to overcome these obstacles. Same thing with Kansas basketball. As great as the program may be and kids may have a desire to win, getting a dude from Chicago, to play ball at Lawrence, KS, is laughable without other reasons. Now, it sort of makes sense. They can leave after a year. But, back in the day.....who are we kidding?

Well, I don't buy that black 18 year olds from California were geeked up about going to Lincoln, NE. Not without other reasons to be excited, shall we say. I mean, does Lawrence Phillips strike you as the kind of kid that would leave Los Angeles, CA to go play ball in Lincoln, NE? Seriously?
