Not improving (the flip side)

We have definitely regressed in penalties and mental focus from the first game of the year. Yeah, I know it's AP but FFS that was South Alabama. No excuse for the 8 penalties.

Passing Offense... enough said. Not improved at all.
Were there eight? That's more than I remembered. I thought it was more like five. That's a lot more than we've seen in any other game.

Run block still lacking on a consistent basis. They were dominated at times yesterday but when they opened hole the back did well.

Like a QB who can run the ball.

They won without a running qb last year. I am like most in this thread, just havent seen a COACH yet. I feel we are regressing with every game. Ole Miss has got players, run the same offense for 2 years and didnt score once yesterday. Maybe just not sold on the scheme. Pray it gets better.

Tackling. Not mentioning the Qb/Wr issues. Missed tackles are becoming a big problem we have, and it's a basic skill.

Yesterday when the Vols gave up that initial td I wondered if they practice at all. Ultimately the way the game was played echoed my sentiment.

3rd down defense has been an abortion for the better part of a decade. That hasn't improved this year.

I think the play calling is definitely related to talent. Good post, zreeves.

thanks fade. i typically enjoy your posts as well even though you bluntly state the harsh reality of our situation typically. i wanted to start a thread about it but i figured there are enough threads being made

Jacob Carter can really block, but most of the WRs struggle with consistency in blocking. This effects our total run and screen game. Also limits play calls. Putting Carter in tips off running plays.

I started it to get thoughts on areas where this team has improved. (http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/203870-team-improvement.html).

On the flip side, what are some areas where this team has not improved?

Well I am going to do mine like this.

Defense is better
4 d lineman at the end of the game could actually pass rush that will be bright forbthe future. The corners are better and the young lb looks good.

The wide outs are worse but you can tell they will be good with time and snaps

The running backs are running better.

The quarterback is awful. And fact is the only hope is that the freshman can play

Coaching is better but I do not like this read option BS . I prefer chaneys style of offense.

I might like the spread if I see it ran like Oregon.

To me the fans will not rest till they see. Either Ferguson or Dobbs play

i think if worley would just hit open receivers people would stop complaining...but seeing passes bounce to receivers then overthrown by 15 yards and then a perfect pass is enough to drive anyone crazy but to stay on topic the fans complaining about the qb play has not improved
