That is the best way to describe our play this past weekend. I understand OR had a lot more speed. Although like I stated before speed goes away with a couple physical hits. We played scared on D. Our DB's were playing way to far off the ball so they didn't get beat. Well guess what you still got beat. Your best bet with a team with that speed is to hit them in the mouth. We had 0 pressure on the QB. I am done with the bend not break mentality. I am ready to see us put some pressure on a QB and blow some WR's up on the line.

How can you "hit them in the mouth" when they are running by you with the ball before you even get set?

I was too busy drowning my sorrows to pay to much attention to the announcers during the game, but didn't they say that Oregon is running plays this year over a second faster per play than they were under Kelly

We lined up multiple times with the DB's too far off the ball. I am not saying we still dont lose the game. I just think we could have kept it closer.

But your corners have to be REALLY good to go man to man against a faster team. That's obviously not the case with UT. Your only hope is to keep everything in front of you and pray that you don't give up a home run.

It would have been closer if we could have sustained a few drives. You're not going to stop that offense much, limit their touches is the way to control it..

I believe that they said Oregon was running plays THREE seconds faster per play this year than last year: 20 seconds/play for 2012 vs. 17 seconds/play thus far in 2013. They are "using a more abbreviated nomenclature for play calls and recruiting more cerebral players for their system."

Our corners may become really good at their craft but, right now, they are greener than the greenest grass, which is not a good recipe for success against a system that has been firmly established and is presently working with all the precision of a fine Swiss watch.

We got beat either way. Why not try to at least slow them down a little? I understand what we tried doing. Although when they got us down 24-7 why not try something different? At this point I guess we just need to move on. Hope for better results with the rest of the schedule.

Actually, the 16 missed tackles can partly be attributed to physical weakness. Many times it was flailing arms reaching instead of attempts to tackle. "Grab, grab, grab, grab, what the hell is going on out here?" V Lombardi. We have shown a reluctance to tackle people, particularly among our secondary, for the last 3 seasons of football. I see a lot of diving at feet once they are out of reach, but I seldom if ever see our corners and safeties wrap them up and take them off their feet. Sometimes, it has even been LBs grabbing at their shoulders and whiffing on tackles. You have to like contact and not show fear, especially with the big sec type backs that will not go down with first contact. It's a mentality as much as a physical attitude, and we haven't had that attitude in so long that it's tough to instill in these young guys. We need some "honey badger" mentality and physicality. Honey Badger wasn't very big, but he was all heart. And drugs, which we don't want. Hey, if LSU and Miles dismisses you, you've got some real problems with narcotics.

We would have been physical with them if we could catch up to them. There overall speed was ridiculous. We will do better in conference play.

This is exactly what I am getting at. We are scared to hit from what I see. As someone stated in another thread. We would have been better to play the WR's with tight coverage drawing a couple of interference calls than playing off and letting them run past us

BS they were on the dang LOS. Doesn't get much easier to catch than being right in front of them. I am sorry but that is a BS excuse. Sorry they were fast doesn't cut it. You beat fast by punishing them when you hit them. I really miss having Eric Gordon. Yes he was a liability in pass coverage. Although that kid hit folks.

What exactly is going to get easier in conference play? FL has plenty of speed. UGA has Gurley/Marshall/Hicks in the backfield all 3 have plenty of speed and power to boot. SC has Shaw and Davis who are both quick. AL finally found some offense. MO I haven't watched them enough to know much about them. Vandy will play smart and sound FB. KY is terrible but the QB is still going to give us problems.

If they are sending in 5 plays at a time and the D only has 1 it's hard to keep up. Going 3 and out almost every play doesn't help either!!!!

They kill us man to man. If you don't line up on the line they throw quick passes and get 10 yards a play. They are well coached (except for the trash talk and penalties) and quick. Watch Ole Mess. They are trying to do the same thing.
