Do any of you feel like TN could have beaten North Carolina last year in the NCAA tournament?

Watching teams play this year I do not see in the early goings an elite team that I am just sure would throttle the Vols.

Syracuse looked real good today, but struggled in losing an exhibition. Kentucky has looked beatable. Kansas looked beatable against Memphis. Villanova barely beating George Mason looks beatable.

Some years the top 3-4 teams are just tons better than everyone else. This year it appears like top 25 teams have a chance against one another on any given night. It is a good feeling to not be dreading the inevitable giant who will slay you when you try to scrap by. If TN can play good defense this year they should not be scared of anyone.

We look good, but we haven't exactly played a quality opponent yet. I think we'll know a whole lot more about the team next Monday/Tuesday.

I think it's a little early to start assessing teams with only a few games into the season. If it was March and we had just beaten UK by 70 points instead of UNC Asheville I would be very confident.

Louisville. Their talent level is somewhat down but they are the best coached team that I have seen.

After watching Kansas PG shred our defense last year i wouldnt be too confident. Goins seems to be solid on D thus far though. But UNCA guards are a whole lot different than Kansas/SEC guards

I agree with everything said on this thread. I agree with the poster who urges MikeHamiltonFan not to post everything that pops in his head. Sometimes it just becomes too much. I also agree with you MikeHamiltonFan, I think the opening post is one of the the better theories you have conjured in that scary brain of yours. This does seem like a year where there are not any powerhouses. Last year UNC was untouchable and the year before that Memphis was powerful. Kansas should be the team to beat. Michigan State will be very good but the style they play leaves them vulnerable to upsets. Just watch out for the Spartans in March.

I have been a fan of the song This Charming Man since they played it on the Jackass 24 Hour Takeover about two years ago. I just downloaded the discography early September and have been listening to them non-stop. Really one of the most incredibly bands I have heard. The lyrics are the best I have seen, and the songs and vocals are unreal. Really top notch stuff on all levels.

We'll have to wait and see later in the season. I'm pretty confident with the Vols this year though. I have a feeling they will do well.

Seeing UNC lose makes me even more certain. We get to play Kansas at home and I already predicted a win in that game. Texas may be very good and Syracuse looks tough but I have not watched anyone this year including Villanova and Michigan State who I thought looked like a matchup we cannot win in the NCAA tournament.

It's still really early in the season. Some teams take a little while to adjust. That's all that is going on right now. I am not saying when it comes tourney time Tennessee won't be able to play with them, but I think getting overconfident because a couple of teams had bad games is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Exactly. You can't put that much stock into what's going on right now. Plenty of hot November teams fail to make the tournament every year.

Emain, I guess what I meant is that this time last year I had no doubt in my mind TN would not make the Final Four.

It is still early, but it is not too early to know that there is not a team that is athletically so superior that even without all their sets being executed right they can trounce everyone they play.

I also like the SEC results last night. I see the hat thread was nuked, but maybe on his blog he will talk about being wrong about Vandy St. Marys. It was a big win on the road for the black and gold. Northern Iowa also lost which makes the path for TN easier. South Carolina handed USF their first home loss.

It looks to me like Vitale ranked the Big East too low and the ACC too high. Vitale with an ACC bias? I know that is shocking to you right? :)

And sluggish November teams win big in March. I hate to keep bringing it up, but North Carolina v. Santa Clara a few years ago certainly didn't stop the Tar Heels from winning big.

i think the gap between the Big East and the other conferences is much smaller, it's possible that another conference could be better. The Big East definitely took round one though, and I think Duke is overrated as per usual.

Wow.....can you say premature?

We've beaten 3 bad teams like we should have and you're talking Final Four?

It's still early, but we're thrashing teams we're supposed to. I'm not saying we will make the final 4, but it's an encouraging sign.
