what also got him in trouble is that he lied about what happened several times to the police. If he would have admitted what happened from the start, he would not have been in as much trouble as he got in.

First degree in Oklahoma does not depend on premeditation.

I think this is at most 2nd degree murder and at least voluntary manslaughter. I don't see this rising to the level of 1st degree murder.
