Starters on a great OL aren't backups here

To be fair, he was a starter because of injury and then was relegated to being a rotational guy buried on the depth chart later in the season, based on the article linked above. Transferring because ND returns all their starters and have a ton of depth.

The path to the field is a lot clearer here. Wish that wasn’t the case but apparently asking Elerbe to develop a recruited lineman is asking too much.

He’d immediately be our best lineman if/when he commits
Not sure I'd go that far. I think he'd provide solid depth when...not if...injuries come and eventually grow into a starter. What caught my eye was the designation "C/OG". I took that to mean he can play all 3 interior spots plus he's got multiple years to play. Another plus....he got into ND so he has a decent mind. While he might not be the "best" in our room, I think he's a solid addition with experience at the highest levels.

He went into the portal with a noncontact designation. If he is visiting UT, there is a great chance he is signing. That will solidify the interior line with the Moe signing. O-line looking pretty good with Heard, Pendleton, Satterwhite, Moe and Sanders. Start LJIII if Sanders isn't ready opening day.

And possibly Karic, who was our 2nd best OL after Mays in 2024. The competition should make everyone better. And we finally have depth.

Warren might have something to say there too...I would love to see a rotation of Heard, Warren, LJIII and Sanders...obviously 2 of the 4 will see most of the time but everyone would benefit if it's more of a 67% to 33% kind of split in PT

The interior would be looking good for sure...Satterwhite, Moe, Pendleton, Karic, Anderson, Umarov...I'd love to see a 67% to 33% split like I mentioned with the tackles...and we have spring and fall camps to figure out who gets the 67 and who gets the 33

From a numbers standpoint, it does look better, but the big question is how they'll gel and play. Remember a lot of folks thought we were set at tackle last year with Campbell and Heard. Turns out it wasn't exactly a strength last year.
