recruiting relationships with high school coaches

handling transfers
establishing rapport with former letterman

Just god awful

VFL program seems like a success.

I think he's definitely more of an administrator than a football coach

Recruiting? Considering where this roster is to where the roster he inherited was... you can't really include recruiting.

His rankings compare reasonably well to Fulmer's over time. But his recruits have had less attrition.

He couldn't get it done on gameday. The rest is just fluff.

So far, it seems (by what he has said or done) that Coach Jones is an improvement in these departments. Still to be seen on the rest.

He was good at the following:
Kicking Game
Maintaining Home field advantage
2nd Half Adjustments
Out-recruiting our rivals
Establishing and building strong relationships with HS coaches
Coaching Accountability - dude would take a bullet for his players
Also I remember how up front he was after that UK game. Very admirable how he got in front of the camera immediately and the days following that loss and vowing to never let that happen again

Some of us expected nothing more than total disaster from the moment he was hired. It really sucks to be proven right.

It takes elite in a lot of areas to win in this league. He wasn't, the exact details or areas in which he wasn't are irrelevant.

We sure are gonna have some stinky football players walking around campus next season, what with nobody there to tell those boys the proper way to wash their bodies.

Fluff, huh.

Most if that list is about working and connecting with people.

If you cant do that, you cant coach

No, Dooley's rankings don't compare well to Fulmer's at all. Dooley started okay, but his first class was mostly Kiffin's guys. After that, the rankings dropped every year he was here to the point where this year, he wasn't even in the top 30 and was getting out-recruited by Vanderbilt. Fulmer had one awful year, the year before he was fired. But beyond that, his average was right at the top 10 nationally (which Dooley never once got to, beyond the first year with Kiffin's early signees) and he would have a top 5 recruiting class at least once every three years (which Dooley could only dream of).

Instead of burning mattresses when Kiffin bolted, we should have burned them when Hamilton made the pathetic hire

i hated how Dooley tried to act just like saban and in the end was part of his firing. I also hated how he was like a parnoid crack head i never liked how he kept close practices. all this and the way he treated people you would have thought he was wining but no he thought he could just act like saban and get saban respect but that dont work the only reason it works for saban is because he wins glad to see this mind set gone. it will be nice to be able to read about practices and see former vols be able to come out and watch and help if they want i can see the future looking better allready

I am not buying he was a good recruiter. He was decent MAYBE but not good.
We rarely won out with highly rated recruits, we had some crucial signing day botches.
I will say he is/was good at identifying good wide receivers.
But some not a lot but some credit goes to CLK on getting Hunter and Rogers on campus
