Now that it's all over with the NCAA, some perspective on Pruitt and his tenure here

I still believe that Pruitt was sent here by the Bamers to exact revenge against TN for the Fulmer years. How do you go from being in charge of that amazing Bama defense to a complete and total idiot that does not know anything about football. You have to try really hard to lose to Georgia State.
Nobody at Alabama could force us to hire Pruitt. That was Fulmer’s doing.

They do not give the death penalty. If you think Georgia and Bama dont pay recruits your out of your mind. Yes you buy the best players, it has always been that way. Certain schools get the benefit. Take Kansas and Duke in Basketball, Kansas, Kentucky... All of these schools had serious implications and all skated by well before NIL. Hell North Carolina made make believe classes and handed out diplomas. What Pruitt did was stupid and did not have the right morons in place to pull it off. So yeah he picked it up over his career. Bama has been busted more than once. Think banks just give away chargers to kids with no money ? How about flashing 20 G's ?
Just wondering if anyone knows how the infractions got discovered in the first place ? My guess is some players Pruitt paid that didn't come to TN spilled the beans.

Hate to say it but Fulmer looks awful in this situation. Bottom line there are only two scenarios. Either he knew what Pruitt was doing and was complicit or he had his head in the sand and failed to monitor the worst and the cheatingest coach in UT’s modern history. Take your pick. Neither choice makes him look good.
If you think Danny White follows Heupel around every minute of the day, idk what to tell you. They don't get paid to babysit. They have to run a whole athletic depth. From what I read Pruitt and staff went the extra mile to try to hide things by doing most of it off campus.

I don’t believe Heupel has given White any reason to follow him around. As much junk (200 incidents) as there was going on, I find it hard to believe that nothing got back to Fulmer. Football is his biggest interest and you know he had connections in all facets of the program. Might not have known about all of it but my guess is Fulmer knew about some of the incidents and ignored it as just being part of the recruiting game.

Just read the article in the KNS about the text messages and the blatant disregard for the rules was unbelievable. I believe it was Larry Harold that said in one of the texts about recruiting: “We gonna do some epic 💩.” Well, one thing is for sure. What they did was certainly epic.

You’d think. But unless I read the article wrong—Fulmer’s list of candidates in his email listed an Alex French. The reporter who wrote the article said that after extensive research he was unable to determine where Alex French had coaching experience at.

Sorry! it was a joke; since Fulmer had referred to him as "Grinch" . You can take the boy out of Winchester, but you can't take the Winchester out.......

How can a guy who is getting paid millions be so dumb? He was doing it on purpose he didn’t care if he got caught or not. The guy is from Northern Alabama always was a Bammer. I think Dooley Sunseri and Pruitt were plants to destroy the program after what Fulmer did to Alabama. The administration and Fulmer kept hiring these people and not seeing what they were doing. We have hired all kinds of assistants from Alabama and none of them were worth a crap. It’s like they were hired to do nothing but make the program worse smh

Yep, Rainsville; I think; Sand Mountain definitely. Theys some real winnahs up Air.

It's finally behind us, and at the end of the day we ultimately traded Pruitt for some recruiting/scholarship penalties and the hiring of Heupel, so we ended up winning in the overall big picture.

But as for Pruitt, I see a lot of people bashing him and celebrating that he's not likely to get a job for at least 6 years. But if I may give some perspective...

I don't hate the guy. Pruitt simply tried to play the game that the whole world knew Kirby was playing, which of course, he learned from Saban. He also did this under Fulmer's direction, which is not a shot at Fulmer because he also just tried to play the game. Fulmer had Tennessee's best interest at heart and wanted to do what it took to win, he saw mimicking Kirby and Georgia as the path to that.

Pruitt and Fulmer both knew that there was no way to compete with Georgia for the East without throwing stacks of cash at high school kids when it was illegal, because that's exactly what Kirby was doing. Now of course, Pruitt's fault in the matter was that he didn't win. If you want the NCAA to look the other way, you have to be a winning cash-cow for them.

If you blatantly play the game Kirby played pre-NIL, but don't win, you became an easy target for the NCAA to flex their muscle.

So we're here now, the dust is settled, and things are getting way better at a rapid rate on Rocky Top. Kirby has his two Natty's but also has publications like the AJC pointing out the excessive shadiness going on behind the scenes there.

I don't hate Pruitt for what he tried to do. The real villains in this story are our shady rivals. We already took one of them down, now it's going to be extra extra sweet when we remind Georgia that even with their cheating, they belong under Tennessee in the great pecking order of the SEC.
He was fired for mainly sticking with JG his whole tenure. The cheating and losing were results to JG being the most frustrating QB to ever have start.

I guess all the “negavols” can say we told you so to all the coach fans that defended the inbred until the end.

What a colossal failure this hire was.

The most amazing part of this story is that despite the slew of infractions, only $60k has been disclosed as impermissible payments. That's chump change at this level.

Yep. Surely there is more nobody's talking about. I mean at bama---------what's a reasonable estimate of yearly illegal benefits prior to NIL? Houses, cars, jobs at Mercedes, ect ect

From the NCAA page:

  • A six-year show-cause order for the former head coach. Should the head coach become employed in an athletically related position at an NCAA school during that show-cause order, he shall be subject to a suspension from 100% of the first season of his employment.
  • A five-year show-cause order for the former director of recruiting.
  • A 10-year show-cause order for the former assistant director of recruiting.
  • A two-year show-cause order for former assistant coach 3. Should he be employed by an NCAA member school during that period, he shall be prohibited from participating in on- and off-campus recruiting activities.
  • An indefinite disassociation of booster 2 (self-imposed by the school during the 2021 football season).

I know Pruitt is the former head coach. Anybody know who the other folks are?

Micromanager without managerial skills and a black hole when it came to contributions from assistant coaches and analysts. He tried to emulate Saban without a clue to his own Process. Basically your ADHD younger brother taking over the game controller on NCAA 2014.

Bethany Gunn and Chantryce Boone are the first two. Maybe Derrick Ansley is the assistant? No idea on the booster.

The whistleblower alleged the payments were being openly discussed and had even heard stories at a salon.

There is some serious crap in this thread.

* Fulmer was on over his head with respect to hiring. He always struggled with this task even as a head coach. He surely knew we were cheating, who doesn't. This failure is part of his legacy.

* Pruitt was a very bad coach because he didn't do any aspect even at an average level. He and Dooley are the worst coaches in recent times, maybe all time.

* Cheating was so bad ... We didn't even try to hide it.

* Stop pointing fingers at Bama and Georgia. Kids been lining up to play for those schools like Tennessee. If you have a great coach, then that makes a difference. That is my assertion about Kirby after 1 year of recruiting. Sure money happening but the kids take a chance on the coach based on resume too.

* To date, Heupel has not benefited from NIL. You can tell he is a great coach. Destroys some of the theory about having to cheat or being locked into the low level.

I’ll always hate the guy. 1st, he’s a Bama lovin Gump. He was desperate to win here fast so that he’d be ready to jump there any moment Saban quit/retired/died. 2nd, he was a horrible coach a horrible person & horrible representative of the University. That’s been his history everywhere he’s been except Alabama. 3rd, he intentionally embarrassed the University with no remorse.
