Oh thank god. Finally a thread where I can turn to for speculation about our next coach! Haha. I doubt it'll be Gruden. I really, really want a good name-brand coach if you will.
I'm surprised about Stoops...Oklahoma has set him up with one of the best contracts out there in CF. Now Mike Stoops is something else. It would be hard to see them seperated and at different programs but who knows. I would bet Stoops would like to be in the SEC again taking a shot at Saban and Spurrier
Mora Jr is most definitely a name thats going into the hat. This is a what have you done for me lately business and he took UCLA from crap to division champs of their conference and have them sitting at 9-2.
My fears are that we get someone without a proven track record or who will inevitably bring unnecessary drama to UT (which we don't need).
My guess is that there are only about 2 or 3 coaches that VolNation will take at face value and be behind 100% at the minute of their announcement. Unfortunately, I don't think we get any of those guys. Instead, we'll end up with 1 of 3 things:
1) Someone that is unproven and instantly brings questions and division to VolNation. Unfortunately, UT will be their proving ground on whether or not they can make it or not. This is exactly what we DON'T need.
2) Someone that is proven but has some baggage and will bring division to VolNation. I see a Petrino or Butch Davis falling into this category. They would most likely improve the record, but at what cost? Time will only tell.
3) Someone that is a proven coach and will be received with moderate enthusiasm. I see a Gary Patterson or Chris Petersen in this category. Time will tell on their level of success.
Dave Hart is faced with a tough decision. I believe the reason so many folks are so excited about John Gruden is that he does have a proven record, he will be a recruiting magnet, he will be an instant success, and VolNation will be behind him 100% from the first second. Anyone else will have something to prove.
Saw it on the ticker on foxsports with Bradshaw and all those guys this morning that Gruden was putting together a coaching staff for a college team and named us and Arkansas as the two teams... Tifw
