I think things will look better when we don't have Probst and 3 walkons in against the run and pass against sec teams. And maybe a de that gets his first sack before the last game.
We need speed and instinct.
Shedding blocks! Our defensive backs and LB's act like the blocker has some sort of super glue on them and seem to always have trouble being able to disengage from the blocker in time to make the tackle. Team repeatedly made 7,8,9 yards on those WR screens due to this.
Unrelated but McCullers ought to be ashamed by the way he played last night. Most of the time he was in he was just standing up and then making sure no one dived at his knees. He's the only DL I saw not playing with any degree of effort.

Instinct is way underrated .great addition to the post. Coleman and McNeil have all the measurables, and neither seem to have football smarts often referred to as instincts.
Direct coaching decisions cost us a chance to win two games, the fake FG vs Vandy and starting Peterman vs FL and leaving him in to long. Defensive schemes and adjustments had no real bearing IMHO. Maybe the staff missed something or did something and UT was so inept nobody noticed. I am sure the staff never instructed the defense to miss tackle and to get out quicked and to allow the offense to get behind them.
Better tackling and technique seems to be what the staff needs to coach.
Sutton has great instincts, imo. Randolph has good instincts and comes to meet the rb like a man, so you guys probably won't hear me bash him while he's here.
Coleman and McNeil appear to have no idea where the ball is going, when it's coming, or be able to predict a move of a ballcarrier and meet him hard in open space.
I hopefully assume that more of our players have instinct, but it was held back by bad coaching last year and learning a new system this year. We are already slow and learning a new system of reads, etc, made it worse.
I know posters and fans are on about moving towards different DC and OC, but I didn't really see where Jancek/Martinez screwed up this year. Db's had most int's in a long time. Zone blitz dropping DE killed us everytime, and leaving AJ in man, but I thought they did ok. No offense made it tougher on them, and having 2 sr DE's that get their first sacks of the year in the last game flat out sucks.
