Number 4 QB

To go 10-2, but not win the east, he keeps his job.

As bad as the east has been, what's the worst we could go and still win the east? 8-4.

Is rather go 8-4 winning the east rather than 10-2 but not winning the east.

I can't wait to go "Swamp Stomping".

It's time for a "gator stomp".

CBJ has a lot riding on 121.

Go Vols!

Hell, he should of been canned already.

The 2nd loss to Vandy is enough. The timing was off along with extenuating circumstances.

Players have quit, but the team never has.

I'd like to see CBJ pull it off.

We all would. I just think we either plateaued, or will be declining. Don't want to go back to the Dooley days before we get rid of Jones.

CBJ has over come the Dooley Effect. We have top recruits interested in our program, our coaching staff seems to be improving, I don't see this current staff allowing the program to take steps back when it comes to the character of the team and players. Win are hard to come by but if CBJ wants to keep living the dream he needs to get us to Atlanta. That would help his approval rating.

top to bottom the ACC right now is better than the SEC. in the ACC you have more competition at the top (FSU and Clemson), and more teams from the middle beating the teams at the top (Pitt/UNC).

the same argument we used to use as the top conf, is now the reality in the ACC. they aren't just FSU and everyone else anymore.

whereas in the SEC, it's Alabama and everybody else right now. don't have to like it....but it's true.

and someone nailed it earlier, the coaching in the two leagues has swung...and the ACC has always gotten good players, always fared well in sending talent to the NFL. now the coaching is better.

the two leagues have switched places over the last 5 years or so.

I disagree:

The Southeastern Conference took the crown for most picks in the NFL Draft for the 11th straight year with 53 picks taken. The SEC set a new record with 12 first-rounders taken in the opening day. The conference also saw nine players drafted in the second round, which set a new record for most picks taken in the first two rounds.

Recruiting is declining, still haven't beaten a west team during Jones' tenure, SEC record declined, so we're going backwards metric wise. If Jones is here too long, we will be back to the Dooley days.

How TF is recruiting declining? Butch is doing great with the 2018 class so far. 2017 didn't go as expected but we're keeping a lot of talent instate which Butch wants to continue to do. Lawless, Emerson, Litaker, Taylor, Mays... not sure how that's considered bad recruiting.

From 2014 to 2017 there is a decline in the rankings. Maybe 2018 is a positive sign, or it could be an outlier.

Nathan Peterman is #4 on Mel Kiper's board. Is this definite proof that our coaching staff absolutely needed a QB coach? Has this been our hold up?[/QUOTE

If I'm a coach on the offensive staff when Peterman was on the roster, now seeing his improvement and draft movement, how could I not be embarrassed and hope no one else notices and brings it up to me?

Just point to the guy you kept being picked higher after a year less in college and with better passing statistics.

We're not talking about this year right? I'm not being snarky. I just wanted to check; Ole Miss fielded a pretty bad defense was this last year.

I guess not. Just mentioned some of the best defenses that came to mind in the SEC. Didn't know Ole Miss was that bad last year defensively. I knew FL and Bama were top in the nation but I assumed LSU and Ole Miss were also good per usual.

It looks positive right now but there's still a lot of in state talent that is uncommitted. If we lock down the in state talent I think that puts us back in top 10. I don't think we'll be able to get back to the top 5's unless we start winning.

SEC don't have the titles, or the win loss advantage over the ACC, so Pro-SEC people will cling to the draft.

It is not just the draft. Those that consider overall strength of schedule from top to bottom still have the SEC on top. The ACC is not even second.

Agreed, this is his last shot at the East. If he doesn't Nab it, he should be canned.

So let's say he goes 11-1 with the only loss to Florida that wins the east - Florida loses in the SEC championship and Tennessee ends up in the playoffs - Tennessee would look completely stupid to fire him.

Blanket statements like this are just crazy.

Currently Tennessee is 13 /14th for 2018. Alabama is 44th. Miami is in first place - guess Richt can recruit but that was not the problem at Georgia.

I guess I'd get a little sick of underachieving but Kirby Smart is definitely not an upgrade there.

A senario that would never happen. Florida would get the playoff bid.

The reason the SEC has high strengths of schedule is mainly because of perception.

As long as CBJ keeps beating Fl and Ga the rest of the east will fall in line. As for the west, it is past time for us to get a win against one of them, 121 looks like they are the team to do it.

Fully agree. If we can't out coach Orgeron, then we really have a Dooley-like problem.

This is the exact logic I was looking for when I started this thread.

Nope. The strength of schedule takes into account who plays who. Most, if not all, are not perception based but based on who you play and how well they do.

It doesn't just look at conference A verses conference B - but bakes in all games against all opponents.
