Nunes softens verbal

Or it really is the distance, they expressed this to the coaches before the UF game, so he had softened his commitment even before the shellacking.

anyone who thinks Petty is the answer needs to have his head examined. this is a huge hit for the program. people can cry distance all they want, but on field performance and fan reaction is the reason. even Nunes can see that Phil is hanging by a thread.

no way on Boyd and I wouldnt hold my breath for Newsome. the qbs out there have to be looking hard at the product we are putting on the field and that's a negative for us right now. not to say that it cant change, but we have a redshirt jr that looks pitiful, so if you are a qb recruit you have to wonder why we cant coach a guy up in FOUR YEARS.

I don't think the product on the field is what's driving Nunes away. I think it's fairly evident that UT's got some playmakers -- Crompton's just not capable of making decisions under fire, and he's not getting them the ball.

An incoming qb has to see that as an immediate opportunity to compete for the starting job.

I think Nunes' concern is that the coaching staff might not be back next year....and, even if they're back in 09, that could be their last season in Knoxville.

Compare that to the situation at, say, UCLA, and it's not even close. Neuheisal's not going anywhere.

The coaching staff situation is an interesting point. I believe wasnt it gerald jones who when he commited said a major reason was the stability of the vols coaching and how they'd been around for so long and looked like they'd still be there?

recruits dont like negatvie fan and media attention

Honestly, I could not blame any young man for reconsidering his thoughts of joining this program.

Me neither. Any program with fans so classless as to boo the team and abandon them midway through a tough game isn't a place I'd want to go to... especially if it was 2000-3000 miles away.

I think many of you have significantly underestimated how much fan attitude has already been a liability to UT in attracting top players.

And I think you are significantly underestimating how much going 10 years with no SECC's and sucking has been a liability to UT in attracting top players.

thats the funniest thing Ive read in awhile. it's the fan's fault that the Vols cant compete with our biggest rivals. is that you Jonathan Crompton?

I think he was just saying that the fans booing really hurts recruiting. Do you think booing helps? or has no impact at all?

It is? Or could it be a program with so many highly rated recruits struggle because of poor coaching? Do you think losing to Florida every year hurts us with southern recruits, or national recruits for that matter?

I think that our inept coaching caused the boos, so therefore the recruiting is hurt by our coaches
