Predictable, actually. His face on national TV. Not enough time to exit the general region, no money to bribe passage outside the USA, and generally uneducated or only marginally educated so can't form a coherent plan for evading police searches long term. No dependable affiliates to provide a long term or mobile harbor and very likely the deceased victims had family or homies willing to put him down on sight and he knew this. Surrender was his only option outside of suicide. Why does he have a gun and where he got it is something that needs address as there are many like him out there who have no business with the things.

If by better you mean that it smells like a paper mill and more resembles The Congo than the rest of this state, yes it is much much better.
