'20 NY OLB William Mohan (Tennessee commit)

Agreed. There was a day when defensive positions had classic prototypes and defined lines. Now coaches are learning to use guys with unique skill sets that don't necessarily fit any position profile perfectly.

100%.

It's a new day and with it comes new ways of doing things. The confirmation on D that the NFL was headed that way for me was when Michigan's Jabrill Peppers went first round to the Browns (now with the Giants) in 2017. Same type player as Apache, just more talented. Strong safety/OLB who blitzed and covered underneath in a multiple D. DC Banks would know all about him and the role having been at Illinois/PSU when he was at UM. With uptempo O's, guys like this are at a premium because you don't have to sub and you can go with multiple looks.

Beldar was supposed to be an X/O mastermind, but we found out that was only with superior personnel. Who did he really slow down or fool? The D played well vs UK twice and Miss St once, but that was about all. This new staff is used to being a little more creative.

I know it’s easy to bash once failure occurs but I just don’t agree here. He will be a very good college D coordinator again. His year 1 was a great job imo

I know it seems like sour grapes but i would not be surprised if the drop off isn’t as much as people fear. As for Pruitt, this was the first time he didn’t have a personnel advantage. And he proved to be rather underwhelming under that scenario.

Hmmm but was he really a great D coordinator? Would he be really good if he went to Bama, UGA, Clemson or OSU? Probably. Do you think he would be really good at a school that does t consistently recruit in the top 5-7? Doubt it.

You do realize that every year Pruitt was here we had difficulty lining up correctly on defense right? How does that scream very good?

maybe lends more to him not being able to communicate his defense well as a HC. Also, several of his assistants weren’t good at coaching (Moose) and he treating his staff like dogs

Agreed. Not a number 1 unless he wins immediately. People forgive all flaws if you win. I saw him direct lbs right to where plays were designed over and over. He knows his ****. CBj May never get another real gig. He will and at high as **** level imo

I’m telling you…we have freakin killed it in the transfer portal this year…we’ve addressed every major roster issue with at least one if not multiple highly talented players…

Anyone bitching about this years recruiting class aren’t looking at whole picture…the transfer portal was as much a part of recruiting this year due to the unusual circumstances and our staff gets an A+ IMO

Yeah everybody seems to be overlooking this. The transfer portal may very well bring more parity to college football as a whole.

It COULD.

I hope so. But the reverse is just as likely.
OU killed it in the portal.
Bama did too
And of course UGA hit it out the park with Gilbert. All 4
3 programs were already stacked.

Not disagreeing with you at all but everybody is playing catch up to those teams regardless. The portal has given everybody a chance to get better. Maybe not parity, but something closer to it.

Going to be interesting to see the difference it makes for the players that went to stacked programs versus places where they can make a difference. That could determine the choices players make in the future.

Definitely a good time to have a new staff with pending sanctions than any other point. It will speed up the rebuild process by at least a year.

Saban always adjusts and maximizes his advantage, but “sign em and stash em” was a strategy.

But if the great teams are filling holes with portal transfers who are plug and play, then we're not getting parity we're getting more distance from the great teams to the bad teams.
The bad teams are adding players that were backups elsewhere and the great teams are adding starters from other teams.
